Nokia N73.Incoming message alert gone..No tone,vibration,message envelope

Hi,
On an incoming text , I've no way of knowing that I've received one, unless I go to the inbox and see a red star beside the message inbox icon. I have no tone, vibration, or message envelope in the top right hand corner whilst receiving a text. I've checked profiles and there's nothing obvious wrong.Incidentally, I've lost delivery notification also, and don't know if these two problems are related.

I've changed the sim card to a different phone and it works perfectly .Untill yesterday everything worked fine on my N73.I know it's something small.....

Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Mick G.

Follow this steps in the given order -
1) Switch off your phone
2) Remove memory card
3) Switch on your phone
4) Ask a friend to send you a message. Now you will hear the tone
5) Switch off, insert the memory card & switch on again
6) Ask someone to send a message again. It will work

The reason for this is because you have too many text messages saved in your inbox. Delete them all and then change the alert tone, then switch the phone back off and on again.

Problem solved.

I had the same problem. Go to the profile and change the message tone to the ones saved in ur phone, then try and send a text message to urself. If it works then go back and set the message tone back to whichever tone u want....

I was able to fix my phone using doing a reset. The first time I tried, it did not work so I had to do a reset twice. However, I did lose some stuff from my phone even with the backup. I'm just glad I got the tone back. Thanks to everyone who responded. :)

I'm not very sure how i did it. But i figured out it has something to do with the things inside your phone memory. i resetted my phone and the incoming msg alert appears again. but when i put all the files that i've backup from my PC to my phone, the alert is gone once again. ya, so i dunno wat is the exact problem, but it has gotta do with the phone memory.

Hi All,
Even I was facing the same issue from the last 1 week or so...I have now sorted out the issue by
deleting the messages from Inbox.
Looks like this issue comes up when the phone messgae memory is crossing some mark.
Interestingly I also noted
that this problem surfaced
when I sent bulk messages to my friends..so guys
be careful when u r sending ne bulk messages.
Hope this helps.

I solved this by resetting the 'Orig. phone settings' [Menu-Tools-Settings-Phone-General], it doesn't delete any data and only took me a few minutes afterwards to change back things like ringtones etc..

None of the above solutions worked for me. However the answer was kindly posted by someone else on Fixya with a similar problem. Press star, green button[send],and 3 and hold whilst powering up your phone. You need to back up your contacts as this is a default setting and you will lose them.
Many thanks to one and all who tried to help. You're not a bad lot out there!

How do you do a master reset?

Use the alert tone from phone memory instead. Do not use the tone in your memory card. It managed to fix my problem.

How do I adjust the volume, too LOUD?

Hello jinniq51,

i have some tips on how to do it hope it helps :D

Settings
In this menu, you can adjust various phone
settings. To reset some menu settings to their
default values, select Restore factory set.
Tone settings
Select Menu > Settings > Tone settings and from the available
options:
Ringing tone-To set the tone for incoming calls
Ringing volume-To set the volume level for the ringing and
message alert tones. If you set Ringing volume to be level 2 or
above, your phone rings with the ringing volume ascending
from level 1 to the level you have set when there is an
incoming call.
Vibrating alert-To set the phone to vibrate when you receive a
call or a text message
Message alert tone-To set the tone to sound when you receive
a text message
Warning tones-To set the phone to sound tones, for example,
when the battery is running out of power

Can i make any of my ringtones be the tone for incoming texts and also, can i use animated wallpapers that actually move?

you can download animated themes at www.mobile9.com and www.zedge.net for your e71 phone. as for the ringtones, yes, you can use these tones to be the the incoming tones of your text messages. go to setings, profiles, general, choose personalise, message alert tone and choose your favorite aac or mp3 tone to be your message alert tone.

When i receive a text message my nokia E72 doesnt ring, what could be the problem?

Does the phone ring when you receive an incoming call? If so, press Menu go to Control Panel (or might be the profile is shown in the menu) after control panel, Profile then Options and then Personalize, then, scroll down and again select Message Alert Tone, set the Tone for the message. Also make sure that the volume is turned up. Save the settings and try again. If this doesn't help and you don't hear any ring tone during an incoming call, let me know after checking the sound settings.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.
