Steps for Replacing the Belt

Tools needed:
Nut driver or socket set.
Torex screw driver.

1. Unplug the power cord from the
electric socket and remove the
front panel.
2. Disconnect the power coupling
from the motor.
3. Disconnect the 2 hoses from the
pump. Be aware that the pump
still contains between 1 and
2 cups of water, and it WILL
all come out.
4. Remove the belt from the idler
arm, pushing the belt UNDER the
idler arm. Yes, your hands will
now be quite greasy.
5. Remove the belt from the main
transmission by pushing the belt
under the transmission pulley.
6. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the
motor assembly to the washing
machine body. Remove the motor
assembly with belt from the
washing machine.
7. Turn the motor upside-down. With
the torex screwdriver, remove the
3 bolts that hold the pump to the
motor. Remove the pump from the
motor (in my case, the motor shaft
fit into a slot in the pump; while
it was snug, it was not melted or
rusted, and did just come out).
8. Clean pump and motor as desired.
9. Install new belt and reverse the
steps to re-install.

Took the four bolts loose for the motor mounting plate, and slid the motor out, then removed the three torex screws from the pump, and slid the pump off. Put the new belt on the pulley and refastened the pump to the motor, slid the motor back into place, and spun the belt onto the drum pulley. I then fastened the 4 bolts back in place for the motor plate and was done in 10 minutes or less. Very easy for someone who is somewhat mechanically inclined. Don't be afraid of doing this project yourself!

I had the same problem...i took out all 3 torque screws and it wouldnt budge...watever you do, dont hit the pump with anything, cuz the last thing you want to happen is to crack that plastic....set the whole assembly on the floor...and position your feet on the motor to where you can grab the pump and just start wiggling the pump from side to side while pulling up on it....what happens is just dust and dirt sediment gets into where the motor shaft goes into the pump...and it makes it tough to pull off

This is my first major appliance repair and the entire process took me 8 hours from diagnosis, obtaining parts from store, fixing belt.

Excellent tips here make sure you have the Torx T20 as described. Additionally you will probably have greater success if you can remove ALL HOSES from the pump mechanism. I did this procedure with a T20 drill bit and crescent wrench. If you are unable remove the hoses from the pump you can turn the washing machine UPSIDE DOWN with two people and a 2-wheel dolly.

Attaching a new belt would seem easy however there are 3 plastic bolt housings that block the simple installation. You will need to remove the 3 bolts with the T 20 Torex screw driver once you have access to these bolts. To gain access you will need to remove the 4 bolts that secure the motor to the drum case. PULL THE MOTOR OUT of the opening that is covered by the access plate.

HERE IS THE KEY: If you have unhooked the hoses you can do this without turning the washer upside down. My hoses were old, partially coroded and stuck so I decided to turn the washer upside down to gain access to the 3XT20 Torx bolts (screw driver sold for $5.49 at hardware store.)

You will need to find an Appliance Parts Store in your area or order your belt to be shipped to your house. Good luck with your home appliance maintenance.

PS. Pay attention to the 3rd pulley that is located between the drum and motor drive pulleys. This is the idle pulley? I forgot loop the new belt around this pulley and found that during the aggitation cycle (counter clockwise belt movement) my new belt was slicing into the water discharge ( this could have caused a huge problem) . during the spin cycle (clockwise belt) this was not a problem however the belt was somewhat loser during this phase.

Hello! The belt broke on our Amana Mod.# DLW330RAW . Could you explain how to install the new belt? Thanks Ron

Remove the bottom kick plate.
Remove 4 big bolts and unplug the motor. Move the motor assembly to a work bench. You need a T-20 torx driver to remove the pump screws and remember the rear pump leg goes between the belt. I have your Amana washer repair manual HERE

HOW HARD IS IT TO REPLACE THE BELT ON A AMANA ALW430RAW WASHER

that belt replacement requires some effort but you can do it with a little patience. then you will have your reward plus your washer will be fixed. you'll need a torx head screw driver ( if u don't have one they sell them at the hardware store) and a 1/2 inch socket. it requires removing motor pump assembly from washer and then removing pump from motor. it will take you a while. it's not as hard as it looks. good luck.

How to put on a new belt for Amana washer model #LWA50AW

I just did this today. You have to remove the motor. first start by removing the two hoses then remove the four 1/2 inch bolts that hold the motor/pump assembly. the wires are clippes to a bracket, pry that off removr the whole motor assemly with the bracket by pushing on the tub to manipulate it out. Then remove the three #25 torx screws that hold the pump to motor, remove the pump then route the belt onto the pulley around the inside pump mount put the motor back on the reinstall it the way you took it off. its not that bad (for the first time ever working on a wash machine). I hope you dont have the problem I do, the belt slips in the spin mode - that is probably why the belt failed in the first place I am still trying to find a solution to that. if you just have a failed belt, you will be just fine.

Belt amana washer replace mod lw6501w2

I have a similar amana top load washer and just changed the belt. Here are the steps I used to change the belt:
1) Unplug the washer
2) Slide the washer away from the wall about 12"
3) Remove two screws from the bottom of the front panel, slide the front panel down (there are 2 metal tabs that slide into slots on the top of the front panel - observe how they slide into/out of the slots). Set the panel aside.
4) Remove the electrical connector (upper left of motor). Press down on the top of the plastic connector - this will undo the catch hook holding the connection in place). Observe how the belt is routed before proceeding.
5) Remove 4 bolts holding the motor in place. You can remove the motor - even with the water pump and hoses in place - they will flex.
6) Remove the water pump from the motor. There are 3 torx - head screws to remove. Note: You will need a star shaped (torx) head driver (Looks like a screwdriver but with a "star" head on it. The one I used measured just under 3/16 in diameter.
7) carefully remove the water pump. - remove the old belt from main pulley under washer drum and also from the water pump. Insert the new belt - be sure to put the tension pulley on the outside of the belt.
8) Reinstall the water pump to the motor. Reinstall the motor. Route the belt correctly in the water pump body area first - them slide the belt around the left side of the main drum pulley - rotate the pulley counter-clockwise and the pulley will tug the belt onto the pulley. Once in place - check bolts and belt - then reattach the electrical connector (remember to press the plastic lever on top of the plastic connector before sliding it in place). Reattach front panel - slide the top of the panel onto the metal tabs - then attach screws at the bottom.

Belt Removal and Replacement

No.  The motor and pump assembly need to come off.
There is 4 1/2 inch bolts that hold this assembly to the main mechanism.  2 on top and 2 on bottom.  Work belt off bottom pulley on transmission and then remove these bolts.  Turn motor over and remove 3 torx screws holding pump to motor.  Install new belt then reinstall pump with 3 screws.  Reinstall assemblt to mech.  Pu top 2 screws in first then bottom 2.  Be sure belt goes on left side of black plastic idler pulley.  Work belt around transmission pulley.  You can press on opposite end of idler pulley arm to loosen belt tension.  Make sure belt is on all pulleys before testing.

Changing belt on washing machine, that broke

to change the belt you need to remove the pump attatched to the motor. the pump is held on by either spring clamps or in older models, torx (star) screws. I believe the size for the torx screws is #20. slip the belt over the motor pulley and around the tension pulley and finally around the transmission. reinstall the pump and you're good to go.
