It could just be dirt on the lazer/lens. Try cleaning it with a good brand name lens cleaner for DVD/CD. If that doesn't do the trick there might be damage to the lens, or an electrical fault.

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.

This is a common problem when something goes wrong with the lens system.
This can be as a result of numerous problems.
Try to pull the lens as turning on and also gently twisting it in and out...just may make the lens go back on track.

Your camera is trying to get your lens to respond the way it should. If the lens is faulty it will keep going in and out. Your only option is to repair the camera by Sony or local camera repair center.

the lens is got misallighned and so this is happening.keep the camera off and move the lens with your hand manually for a minute.in all the directions.but take care the lens is very delicate so do not put or apply pressure or any force on it.and check out it should work.if still does not works and gives the same problem.then keep the camera ON and tap the sides of the camera for a while and the check.if still does not work then two optionseither the lens is broken  internally or itthe camera needs to be opened and lens needs to be readjusted and the assembly which moves the lens has to be checked if that is cracked it needs to be replaced. thanks.

mine camera did the same thing. i gave it to my techno neighbor guy and hours later he gave me my camera back and it was FULLY functional! he "hit it several times" thus jarring the lens back into place! (i could have gone w/o hearing that but, hey! it works!
