SOURCE: Sony Powershot G9 - Lens won't retract

When the lens will not retract and camera is not functional (no picture on display, and does not shoot) , and you already tried replacing batteries with a new fresh set (ensure please) , and then restarting camera with no memory card inside, then camera is faulty.

Try an easy fix by pushing gently the lens (do not force them, just help them) while you turn off camera at same time. Try also switching the mode selector.

If still no luck , then the camera must be disassembled to fix the problem.

Possible reasons are :

  • Faulty lens mechanism or jammed lens (camera usually turns off by itself in this case)
  • Main board faulty.
  • Ribbon cable to main board broken or connector defective.
  • If there is no power at all it is the connector from batteries to main board, this is also a ribbon cable.

If the camera is less than one year old will be replaced by manufacturer.

If your warranty is expired you can get an estimate for repair from manufacturer, or from a third party like Advance Camera here :Advance Camera Repair you can book the repair online.

SOURCE: My lense is stuck open despite turning my camera

This is not a joke........

Use a can of compressed air and blow around the lens while it is extended. Take a relatively firm approach with this problem slap the camera into your palm two or three times.
Not lens down in this case, but using the side or rear of the camera to make contact with your palm
Make sure you have the camera cord around your wrist so as not to lose it across the room.

Do this several times and turn it on and off till the message of tuen ona nd off no longer shows(if it ever did) and the lens retracts and works correctly. The compressed air will help remove any accumulated dust that is jambing the lens.
This is a sony tech fix and not a joke, they charge you $90 to do this and this fault is not uncommon in many of these small cameras
dust and dirt get taken into the lens bay ad eventually cause it to stick. Hence the use of comptressed air with the brutal approach

SOURCE: lense will not retract

Try to move it manually. If not succesfull, I am afraid you have to let lens replace.

To get the card out. push it down and you'll hear a click and then it will pop up. Check the slide switch on the card to see if it's locked which "might" be causing the error.

My canon ixus 75 is not turning on properly the zoom lense is stuck out and wont retract. When i turn it on it says "lens error reset camera&quot

OK, assuming the batteries are ok, the problem is within the mechanism for the lens being too 'binding' while it operates.

Sometimes, people put their finger on the barrel of the lens when it retracts or extends.

If you reset the camera and it still does this, the camera needs to be serviced by Canon.

There are a few things you can try. Here is an excellent blog about lens errors and stuck lenses, and it covers what can be tried to free it up:

They say about 50% of lens problems can be fixed trying their suggestions. Hope you're one of the lucky ones! Also, if nothing works, get an estimate before having it repaired. Often, it's just better to get another camera.

Canon Powershot S2 Is

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

Camera powered on, lenses extended, then got an E18 error message. Won't take pics, lenses won't retract. Tried charging battery, no difference. Powers up, powers off, that's it.

Canon E18 error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend.

There is a step-by-step tutorial (with pictures) for fixing this yourself on this website, which is too long to re-post here.

You can also try tapping the USB port lightly against a hard surface, and using compressed air to blow out the area between the camera body and the lens turret.

If you can't fix it yourself and decide to send the camera back for repair, be warned that Canon has horrible customer support and response time. You might want to consider replacing the camera instead.

Camera got stuck

Hello there,
The E18 error is related to the LENS not able to retract fully. If it is still under warranty, I would advise you bring it to the nearest service center. This is to avoid further damages. Otherwise, you can try a few things below.
There are a couple of things you can do.
1. Turn it on and then off. Spray canned air around the lens.
If trick 1 will not work out, try this.
2. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Turn on the camera and then give it a couple of firm whacks on the side. Make sure nothing is blocking the lens and wait for it to fully retract.
Let me know how it goes.

Lenses

Your camera's problem is with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
