Mine had the same noise from the time I bought it, and since none of the answers I have found anywhere have been helpful, I tore into it yesterday and I narrowed it down to the plastic tension wheel on the belt. I was able to completely eliminate it by taking it off, knocking the bearings out, removing the small spacer between the bearings, and reassembling it. Noise is gone and it works great now.

Chain too tight or not lined up correctly. Readjust the rear wheel.

SOURCE: schwinn 201 recumbent bike makes clicking noise

Check the tightness of the crank bearings, also the crank fastening nuts (on axle) If its the gears you may have to turn the screws on the rear derailleur to adjust the tracking. The same as the front. Your question is kind of vague so its hard to pinpoint the clicking noise. Could even be a stone in the tire??lol

SOURCE: Bad crank bearings can move crank arms small amount.

clicking can be a stiff link in your chain.

How can I fix a knocking sound inside the wheel on AD2?

Hello, Andrew -

I hope I am correct in thinking you checked the owner's and assembly manual for your Schwinn Airdyne AD2 exercise bike to see if your problem is mentioned in the Troubleshooting section.

In case you do not have the manual, this is a link to it in PDF (Adobe Acrobat Reader) format:
http://download.nautilus.com/supportdocs/AM_OM/Schwinn/SCH.AD2.AM-OM.EN.pdf

I only found Troubleshooting information about a "clicking sound" while pedaling on Page 26 in the Troubleshooting section.

From Page 15 of the manual:
Quote

Before each use, examine this machine for loose parts or signs of wear. Do not use if found in this condition. Monitor the Seat, Pedals, and Crank Arms closely. Contact NautilusĀ® Customer Service for repair information.

End quote

Note: The toll free number for Nautilus Customer Service can be found on Page 2 of the manual.

Best wishes.

Bad crank bearings can move crank arms small amount.

That would depend on the style of bearings (loose ball or caged balls vs sealed bearings) and possible bottom bracket damage.

Either way, a Bike Shop mechanic would probably need to assess it for you. Special tools are usually involved.
