I'm a single gal, and this may sound tricky, but the solutuion was a pice of cake...remove the back cover, yes, even though it says not to. the c8 component capacitor needs to be replaced (bulging at the top). use a solder, my first time, to melt the two points at the bottom so that you can remove the capacitor. ensre the new one ($2) goes in properly, +ve and -ve. solder the bottom...i clipped the wires shorter. it'll work, believe me. i'm no handtman genius, just too cheap to buy a new box. and just bought the solder iron too.

i should have mentioned, mine is the dt250a model and i used a 470uF 25 volt capacitor.

Firstly, thank you Meme you were absolutely correct. I got the same box from goodwill for $1 or so and it worked great for 3 weeks then no green light. I replaced capacitor #8 and then Bob was quickly my uncle.

That being said, I'm not much of a conspiracy nut, but how in the blazes would you know that THAT capacitor was swollen and the source of the problem? Did you somehow break my capacitor to make your answer look good? I'm just kidding - that's ludicrous... Right?

It's 7 years after you and Steve posted - did I get YOUR Apex HDTV tuner? Wouldn't that be weird... Oh, well, thanks!!

Single gal is right everyone... I bought a desodering kit, a sodering kit, and ordered a replacement C8 capacitor online. After replacing the C8 it works perfectly... a good fix. I now have more tools for my tool kit and a life lesson... !! Steve

First try unplugging the unit. Wait a few minutes and plug it back in. Worked for me and it might save ya some trouble.

I, too, am having a problem with my Apex showing a red light (off) and never turning on (green light) either by pushing the button or using the remote. Unplugging it for a short time (minutes) or a long time (a couple of days) has not made a difference.

Any other suggestions? This unit is barely 2 years old.

same thing here. Nothing makes a difference. Is it just a **** unit?

Meme is right.I have 2 Apex DT 250 and both were not working. I fixed one with the capacitor of one of them, and then I went to an electronic store to buy the capacitors 470 uf 25 volts to fix the one missing the capacitors. This store sold me the same capacitor rating but a diferent shape, shorter but thicker capacitors.I installed them with my solder, but now that Apex DT 250 Digital converter, does not even turn on the red light.Any suggestion?

Converter box will not stay on - starts green light then switches to red

I have one of those right here attached to my computer so I can watch TV on the PC. The red-green light is the power indicator. Your converter is turning off for some reason. Possibly it is getting a signal from another remote, and turning off. You can block the converter's remote sensor with something (black tape works) and then change the channels with front panel buttons if it has them.
Mine has power buttons for both the TV and the converter, so watch out for that.

2004 Chrys Concorde, new utility trailer, tail light converter. Problem: There is output from conv box in yellow wire, when turn signal is on, but when it is connected to the trailer harness, no output...

Your vehicle CANNOT be wired for a trailer without using the converter box. The only vehicles that do not require a converter box are the vehicles that use the stop lamp bulb as a turn signal. Your vehicle is equipped with SEPARATE stop lamp and turn signal bulbs.

To make the converter box work correctly, it must be wired according to the instructions to BOTH the stop lamps AND the turn lamps. The tail (or PARK) lamps DO NOT go through the converter box.
Your trailer uses the SAME bulb for stop and turn - THIS is the reason you need a converter.

The wire color for both your LEFT TURN and your RIGHT TURN are LIGHT GREEN/TAN. Although the wire colors are the same at the bulb sockets, these are SEPARATE circuits and must be wired to the correct wire at the converter box. (LEFT and RIGHT) The converter box will have an INPUT connection for EACH of these.

The wire color for your STOP lamps is WHITE/TAN. The converter box should only have one INPUT wire that connects to this. It doesn't matter which side of the vehicle you connect this wire to. All of the stop lamps are on the same circuit.

The converter will then have only one wire for LEFT turn and stop (usually YELLOW) this is the wire that needs to go to your trailer connector for left turn and stop.
The RIGHT turn and stop will most likely be GREEN coming out of the converter.

I have an Apex Digital TV Converter box # DT250A. Today, all of a sudden my TV screen went greenish and then the picture on my TV went out ( static looking screen ). The light that's on my Converter Box...

The DT250 likely has one or more bad 470uf 25v capacitors. You should replace all four. Look at some of these youtube videos for how do do the replacement.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCSNWi3UHf4&NR=1

Order 4 new 470uf 25v capacitors from digikey.com P/N P10274-ND

Use first class mail as your shipping method. Will be under 10 dollars total.

Apex converter boxes malfunction.

If the converter box wont power on and makes a cyclic whinging noise, it may be one of the 4 470uF caps on the low voltage side of the power supply. Check for domed tops on the caps nearest the fly back transformer (center of the board). I replace all four of those caps just to be sure and it is playing fine now.

Won't even feed into tv anymore....

If you are using the RF input are you sure the channel on the TV did not change? Make sure the TV is set on Channel 3 (or 4) or use the component (red-white-yellow) outputs if your TV has component inputs available.
