If hard drive fails do u lose all data

yes most times
but we move it to 2nd PC in USB dock and try.
using RECUVA (free) (saved some mine for a fact)

https://www.pcdied.com/HDD-SDD/recovery.html

imagine a newspaper
burned to ashes, no data there! then
now pretend only some pages or holes burn some, yes data but not all.
that is how HDD work, dead or 1/2 dead or fractions
even 1/2 of one fail gone.
if smart tests fail, on the drive run RECUVA on bad drive on 2nd good PC.

You have tried all possible solutions and troubleshooting.

My Suggestion is to check the Warranty of the Hard Disk and get it replaced. this possible shows a mismatch between the Laptop and hard drive.

Tried to burn recovery discs and I get error codes

If the computer is still under warranty, get the faulty CD/DVD-writer replaced, so that you can "burn" disks.

However, you seem to have "other" hardware problems. Hire a qualified computer-geek (Geek Squad or Dial A Geek) to trouble-shoot, if your computer is out-of-warranty.

My 0xc000000c "Restore Failed" prompt seemed to be the result of disk surface damage on the restore disk. After burning the restore disk to a new disk, the restore proceeded normally. Try making a copy of the original restore disk to a known good blank disk.

My fan went out and laptop went down

Check/clean the 2nd disc if any finger print on it. or clean the laser unit for CD drive if you can and have correct clean liquid in your hand.

Or do Low-Level format your HDD before doing recovery.

If you still can't keep doing recovery after you have done all three steps above, there are some thing else wrong with your motherboard.

Recovery Error

Do recovery again, when it asks you to insert disc 2, take out disc one and close the tray. Do not put the disc 2 yet. If you can see the error message again, then it is a RAM issue. You need to reseat the Memory module and try to do the recovery again.

If you closed the tray then no error message came up, it would be an issue with your recovery disc and order for a new one. You can contact Toshiba to have the recovery replaced due to corrupt media.

Hope this helps.
