Card Error I recently purchased a Scan Disk Ulra, 30MB/s 16GB, I try to format and I keep getting Card Error

This is probably one of the best you can buy:

If you don't need 16GB, you can buy cheaper cards with less storage space.

I experienced the same problem (my USB device ). try these steps:
1. Start, Control Panel,
2. Performance and Maintenance,
3. Administrative Tools,
4. Computer Management,
5. Disk Management,
6. Find the USB drive (usually the last storage device before the optical drive),
7. Click on the USB drive,
8. Right click on it and you will see the options (New Partition or Format)
9. Follow the instruction (I chose FAT32), but please do NOT chose Quick Format.

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. The second most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

There are no 16GB SD cards. A card that size is actually an SDHC card (yours actually sounds like a Micro-SDHC card). SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different. Many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

You really don't need a card this size on a still camera. 1Gb is plenty. If you really need more space, you can carry a spare, like people used to take extra films with them on holiday.

I don't know why the 512Mb card is giving you trouble. This might indicate an actual fault.

Seems to me the devide is damaged. You will have to format it.

To do this :

Open My Computer

Right Click the device name

Click format

The higher the class number, the faster the card will record the video with no problems. Go for the Class 10.

Does the camera have a "reset" function in the setup menu. Have you tried formatting the card in the camera recently (download any pictures first)

Far too often these little things have an almost invisible read/write protect button on them. Look carefully, over the entire surface of the USB Flash Drive. You might have this switch turned to Write Protect, which means there is nothing you can do, until you turn it the other way, and allow the device to be written to.

You mentioned in your post "the above camera", but I can't find the make/model of your camera? Check on the manufacturer's website to see what the largest capacity card can be used in your camera. Knowing the make/model and searching for the message on the internet can yield better answers to your question.
