Whirlpool dryer awz 121 only tumbles counter clockwise. This is a dryer that briefly reverses direction, so the only tumbling is when it reverses. The rest of the time, the dryer makes a noise but d

My dryer will only tumble in a counter-clockwise direction. It is a reversing type dryer and the counter clockwise direction is a brief few spins, the rest of the time it SHOULD be tumbling in a clockwise direction, but it won't. It makes a noise, just doesn't tumble. At first I thought it was a broken belt, but if broken, it wouldn't tumble at all. Then I thought maybe the belt was over heating, causing it to slip. But I am unable to use the dryer, it is COLD and it still only tumbles briefly in a counter-clockwise direction. HELP :) Suzy in New Zealand

You may want to contact a professional that will have the diagrams for your machine online. there are some here or you can go to another site. like (Just answer.) Be more specific about your problem. It can be fixed . There's no worries.

Are you saying that it does not heat up either ?In addition with not tumbling clockwise ?

Disconnect the dryer first. You can remove the top and front of the dryer to check to see what is happening. If it does not heat . You may need to replace the temperature control relay. If that does not work , the heating elements themselves may need to be replaced.

For the tumbling problem, they also have relay switches that go out.
BUT, if it is tumbling to one side and keeps tumbling then that will probably be enough to dry your clothes. As long as it is not too heavily loaded.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your response. The dryer heats just fine, I only mentioned that it was cold so that we could eliminate over heating and stretching the belt. The thermostat & heating element were replaced 6 months ago also. I believe it is a relay switch, and I do have the parts list and diagram for the dryer from my previous self repairs. Only problem...there's nothing on the parts list called "relay switch" or anything remotely like that. I rang a couple of local repair people & they were less than nice (they don't like people fixing their own stuff lol)"

(Tell me about it.They are out to get our money.) this is the meaning of a relay - electrical device such that current flowing through it in one circuit can switch on and off a current in a second circuit

Oh you would have loved one guy's response. He thought I fell off the turnip boat yesterday because I have an American accent living in New Zealand. "So this is something you brought ovah from the states eh mate?" Ahh nooo I've lived here for 15 years and have done all the repairs myself (female) So he launches into some speech about it's probably the motor and the windings and I rolled my eyes and in true Kiwi fashion, thanked him for his time, hung up and called him a name! LOL I love these forums! G'day mate :)

Hahaha, you are a funny lady. I know some women that can kick my behind in doing many things . I know where you are coming from. By the way. I have talked to a lady from Australia for about 10 years now. We are good online friends. I like Australians.

I finally gave up and bought a new dryer, a European-made Beko which gets rave reviews. Yes Aussies are ok but Kiwis are better :)

Of course. The lady from Australia moved there from New Zealand.

Problem with tumble dryer that has started making loud noise.

Dryers are designed to operate in one direction. Some models turn clockwise and some turn counter-clockwise. Do not run it backwards. The direction of air flow will be impeded or reversed.

Whirlpool Tumbledryer AWZ-121/3 OVERHEATING PROBLEMS

When was the last you cleaned the hose leading off he back.
Pull the dryer out and remove the exhaust hose (probably held on with a hose clamp so you will need a flathead screwdriver.
Once it's off take the hose from a vacuum or shop ac and stuff it in there and get out everything you can. Do the same win exhaust hose, and from the front at the lint filter.

Whirlpool Clothes Dryer AWZ 121

It sounds like it is the belt. When the dryer heats up the belt expands a little and when it gets wore out, the tensioner doesn't have enough spring to keep it tight. It might work a little when it's cold before the belt expands.
This belt should work for your dryer but verify the length.

The bottom of this link shows some typical ways a belt runs past a tension wheel and links for your dryer. If you replace yours I would recommend taking a couple pictures before removing the old one so you can refer to them when installing the new one.

Whirlpool AWZ 410 washer dryer is not generating any hot air when drying. The dryer drum is tumbling but with cool air only.

Unplug the unit and take the top with the screws holding the lid on. Take a look at all of the wires on the top of the machine. You might notice broken/burnt wires on the safeties that are close to or that directly activate the heating element located in the blower housing located at the top of this washer/dryer condensing unit.
