How many combinations of 56 cents are there?

Great question.

You could start with the number of quarters, which can be 0, 1, or 2.
If there are 0 quarters, then you only have dimes, nickels, and pennies to worry about. You can have 0 to 5 dimes. There can be 0 to 11 nickels. For pennies, there can be 1, 6, 11, 16, 21, 26, 31, 36, 41, 46, 51 and 56.

Time to work out lots of combinations!

Sounds like a summative project for a data management or statistics course or a great computer programming assignment;)

Good luck,

Paul

Volume

Not enough information. You need the mass density for the alloys the coins are made of. Besides, you cannot use physical measures without specifying the units. Furthermore when you say that " the weight of the nickels and dimes is equal to 743?" does it mean the total weight of all those coins, or the weight of the nickels and that of the dimes are both equal to 743 (weight units).
Sorry you will have to be more forthcoming with the necessary information.

Change the price on maytag top loading washer

Price change for a model MAT12.
Remove the access plate above the coin acceptor with a key. The display should show code 6 and two numbers. Code 6 is the regular cycle and the number of coins required to start. Press the perm press button to advance the number of coins. 06 equals 6 quarters, 08 equals 8 quarters, etc.
Reinstall the access door when finished.

40 coins equaling $6.40 how many quarters and how many dimes are there.

Let x be number of quarters and y number of dimes.
  • There are 40 coins so: x+y=40 or x=40-y
  • These 40 coins equal 6.40$ and 1 quarter=0.25$ and 1 dime=0.10$: 0.25x+0.10y=6.40
  • Substitute second equation into third: 0.25*(40-y)+0.10y=6.40
  • or 10-0.25y+0.10y=6.40
  • -0.15y=6.40-10
  • -0.15y=-3.60
  • 0.15y=3.60
  • y=3.60/0.15=24
  • x=40-y=40-24=16
There are 16 quarters and 24 dimes.
