A mixed number is a number with a whole part and a fractional part.

4.75 as a mixed number is 4 3/4. The 4 is the whole part and 3/4 is the fractional part.

That depends on the problem.
A mixed number is a number composed of an integer part and a proper fraction (fraction where the numerator is less than the denominator
A measure gives you 1 foot and 1/ 2 foot. Instead of writing 1.5 feet some people write 1 1/2. If you don't like mixed number you can convert them into improper fractions (fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator.
1 1/2=1+1/2=(1*2+1)2=3/2
If you use them in a subtraction you should be careful because
7- 5 1/2=7-(5+1/2)=7-5 -1/2=2-1/2=(2*2-1)/2=3/2
You can multiply them, divide them, but any other operation quickly becomes ridiculously complicated. Some people like to use them. I don't much care for them.
In multiplication and division the general rule is to convert every number into its (reduced) improper fraction equivalent and then operate, using the rules for manipulating fractions.

Convert each mixed number (what you call mixed fraction) to an improper fraction, then multiply the two numerators and multiply the two denominators. Reduce the resulting fraction to its simplest form

Example
(2 1/3)*(1 5/7)=?
Convert 2 1/3 to an improper fraction 2 1/3=2+ 1/3 = 6/3+1/3=7/3
Convert 1 5/7 to an improper fraction 1 5/7=1+ 5/7 =7/7 +5/7=12/7
(2 1/3)*(1 5/7)= (7/3)*(12/7)= (7*12)/(3*7)
The 7's in the numerator and denominator cancel one another leaving
12/3=4
(2 1/3)*(1 5/7)=4
Not all products of mixed numbers will give a simple result as this one. More likely they will not.

Probably the simplest is to convert both numbers to improper fractions then divide.
Some calculators can work with fractions. With one of those, simply enter the first mixed number, then divide by the other.

If the result is positive, type in the integer part then add the fraction part either with the help of the fraction key or the division key. (I do not think that the TI82 has a fraction key.
If it is anything like the TI3 there is command under MATH >Frac. It should be pressed after you enter the mixed number to keep the result as a fraction.
If the mixed number is negative you enclose the whole number in parentheses. Press the change sign (-) key to negate the result.

Doing fraction on the Sharp El 531W really isn't that bad. I had to use pictures because, the symbols will not transfer over to your posting for me to show you. When you select the [ON/C] this clears the calculator of previous calculations and, data so that they won't interfere with your new calculations.

Let take the first example where a mix number is being added to a improper fraction. Because I used the [a^b/c] key this makes the calculator display the answer in a mixed fraction format or, a proper fraction format. If I press the [a^b/c] key again after the answer the format will change to a decimal format. The fractional formats are displayed in a mixed number, improper or, proper fraction formats. A improper fraction is really a proper fraction number with the top number (numerator) is greater than or equal to the bottom number (denominator).

[ON/C] [3] [a^b/c] [1] [ [a^b/c] [2] [+] [4] [a^b/c] [3] [=] mixed number results. Now let's do the same calculation as a improper or, proper fraction format.
[ON/C] [7] [a^b/c] [2] [+] [2] [a^b/c] [3] [=] still a mixed number result. Even though I enter the fractions in a improper and, proper fraction formats the calculator will still display in a mixed number format. This is because the calculator first displays as a mixed number if it can. If it can't then it will display the value as a proper fraction and, never as a improper fraction. To convert from a mixed number to a improper fraction format if the calculator did not convert it to a proper fraction, I have to use [2ndF] [d/c] keys on the command line.

When I first saw this question being asked it, was answered with just use the / command. Which that isn't really a good answer because, in math we like to use elimination. If you use the / command eventually the numbers are going to be rounded off and, your not going to be able to eliminate anything. First put the calculator in degree mode.
To convert from fraction to a decimal number first enter your fraction or, mixed number. I'll convert a mixed number to a fraction first since, I don't have a key for the symbol that shows that a number is a fraction on my keyboard. Example: [3][A b/c][1][A b/c][2][A b/cd/e][ENTER]
3/2 should be entered at the home screen. While at the Home screen enter, [2nd][FD][ENTER]
1.5 should now be displayed at the Home screen.
As you can see it is really just using the [A b/c] key to enter in your fraction and, [FD] key to do the converting. The [A_b/cd/e] key isn't necessary because, mixed numbers will convert to decimal numbers just like fractions do. I just don't have the key to show a fraction symbol that the calculator uses. So to show that symbol, I used the / symbol with the fraction number.

Proper fraction e.g. 3/5, input 3, divide, 5, =, answer 0.6

Improper fraction, either enter as improper fraction, or enter the whole number first, then +, then the proper fraction as before, then =.

E.g. 8/5 which is "1 and 3/5': enter 1, +, 3, "divide", 5 =, answer is 1.6

Or, just 8, "divide", 5, same 1.6 answer. Why go to mixed number first?

13/5 which is "2 and 3/5", enter 2, +, 3, "divide", 5, =, answer is 2.6. Or, just 13/5, same answer

When you get a fraction for he answer: shift-S<->D[a b/c<->d/c]

This way, you change it to a mixed fraction or improper fraction
