Washing Machine keeps tripping the electrics -

Hi, is this a new washing machine? If not, then these Maytag front loading washing machines use a paraffin locking switch in the front panel to lock the door during operation. Now, if the switch has gone south and trip the the lock switch without locking the door. Then the washing machine want turn on.

What is a parfin locking switch work is a small container with paraffin (wax) in it with a heater. When the washing machine is turn on. The control board indicate that the machine is in operation and a small amount of current is applied to the paraffin switch to the heating element. This make the parfin to expand trip the locking mechanism and locking door during operation. Keep the door lock from accidental openings. It will take about 4 minute after the washing machine has quite it running operation to open the front loader door. The paraffin needs to cool down to release the locking mechanism. stewbison

You haven't given the machine make and model. The door lock is electrically operated and so if the door will not open even after unplugging the machine from the mains power, then the door lock has probably shorted and got stuck (welded contacts due to excessive power). This may also be the reason why the machine stopped and the red light is off. The mains fuse may also have blown. This used to be a common problem on Hotpoint washing machines. A track on the program circuit board would also burn out due to the current. The repair in this case was to replace the door lock and repair the burnt out track.

In terms of emptying the machine, if this is a front loader, then try banging the front of the machine where the door latch is situated. This may be enough to free the lock mechanism. If not, then remove the top cover AFTER FIRST DISCONNECTING THE POWER, and see if you can get access to the door lock form inside. It should be possible to dismantle the control panel and free the front of the machine, which will still be attached to the rubber drum seal.

if you have no power going into the machine check your electrical breaker box to see if one of the breakers has tripped if this is a front load machine usually if the door locks up you can remove the lower panel on the very front bottom of the machine and reach up along the right side or if your door lock is oppistie on the left there is a small cord that you can pull to open the door to get at your clothes assure first that you have power going from the plug into your machine and as always if you are not used to doing electrical testing I would ask you to call a technician. 2. No extra effort except putting cloths and detergent inside. 3. No need to observe in between while washing. Start and forgot. You can go market and come back.
4. No issue if electricity or water went out during washing.
4. Take more water compare to toploading semi-automatic.
5. You can not open it once it started.

Top Loading Washing Machine: Semi
1. Save water and detergent.
2. Need extra effort to put the cloth from one box to another.


Front Loading Washing Machine: Fully automatic.

I've had this problem before i unplugged it because holding down the lock button didn't work so unplugging it from the wall for about 20 minutes worked just fine it seemed to reset itself. good luck.

Try to unplug the unit for five minutes, then plug back in. Try to start a load, as soon as the door locks agian, hit cancel. That will sometimes let you get back in. Im not sure if this is a top loader or front loader, but there is a way (if its a front loader) to remove the bottom front kick plate, then you have to reach up the inside to the door latch assm, on the bottom of that is a small round handle, pull it straight down, and the door will unlock. If its a top loader (i.e. Cabrio, Oasis, Etc), you can open the top only by unclipping the top from the base. You can do this by putting a putty knife in between the top and cabinet, then finding the clips, pushing them in and lfting, you can get your stuff out that way.

most frount loaders have and unlock pull ring on the door latch switch, it will mean removing the bottom access panel to reach up inside the machine and pull the release ring down to unlock the door

It sound like a lid switch issue. If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. Look that the switch is not broken or loose. If all is fine, you should replace the switch. Good luck!
