Purchased this off of eBay for our son- we can't seem to get him to walk-his legs try to move but don't. Are batteries needed for the legs? I notice key holes in the bottom of his feet. Thanks!
Mattel made 2 different bone remotes. You have to make sure you get the right one.
Looks like anyone with a defective d-rex is out of luck. Bought mine at a thrift store cheap, without the remote. It did show some signs of life when I put batteries in it so I started looking for a remote. I only found them on eBay where people were asking as much as $100 for one. I finally settled on one for about $40 hoping that was all I needed. It lights up when I push the buttons but the d-rex doesn’t respond now, in fact it doesn’t show any signs of life now when I put good batteries in and turn it on. I’m pretty mechanically inclined, so I might try fixing it but that will require surgically removing the skin and hoping I can get it back on when I’m done. I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s tried it.
I have fixed a few D Rex dinosaurs, yours may come back to life if you move some of his joints while he is off.
Then power him back on to see if he is working.
Don't force anything to move.
Once he is back alive, push the Attack button a few times.
If you just hear motor noise and he doesn't walk then the small gear on the motor shaft may be split.
He has a motor that powers his legs, and the small gear on that motor may have split.
I found replacement gears on ebay.
The gear has 8 teeth, 2mm hole and is 5mm diameter.
You will need to separate the tail skin from the body skin and the feet skin from the body skin also.
You can then pull the body skin up over the head and start removing the screws that hold the body halves together. The gear box for the legs if deep inside the D Rex.
Remove the motor from the gearbox and pull off the old gear and push on a new one.
Then put everything back together.
Make sure you hit the attack buttons enough times to be sure he isn't able to walk.
If his legs work only when you hold him in the air then the gear is split, but still in place.
It will need to be replaced.
Do you have the listing link for the gear? I’ve looked and I can’t find the right replacement gear for him.

The small gear on the motor shaft cracks and the D Rex can't walk anymore.
I replaced the gear on mine and it walks great now.
This is not easy to do, but it works great. I am fixing another D Rex right now.
David, how do I contact you about my D-Rex and getting him repaired?
