We turned the tv off with remote, went back an hour later to turn it on and all it will do is display the VIA logo in the middle of the screen for a few seconds, then the screen goes black and the tv turns off. Even the logo backlight on the tv body itself turns off. Then that little logo light comes back on. We tried unplugging the tv and replugging it back in, we checked all the wires coming out of the back. Nothing is loose, nobody touched the tv during that time frame. Fresh batteries in the remote. Everything results in the same - the tv won't start up.
Ours died about the same time. I wonder if they broke these tvs with a system update. it is almost like it tries to boot but can't. I could be they "bricked" the TVs.
Let's do a class action suit against Vizio! :)
Seriously ... I will search for some technician reset codes. There must be a way to restart a system update.
Usually when a TV fails to turn on properly a lamp will flash a number of times which with the correct info guides you in the direction of the fault.
SOURCE: only vizio light come on then nothing. have to unplug to turn off
there a problem on power side.. chage the ic and the resistor going to ic and check also the signal diode.

Old messages and bcipollina is gonna get to read this resonse twice; sorry-
If it just fails to turn on or ignores the remote, the
main power supply is probably at
fault and without some technical background and a couple of test instruments,
you will not be able to do the repair yourself.
What you can do though is; unplug the set, let it
stand overnight or at least several hours, remove the back panel and look for a
separate board with mostly larger components on it; it will have a ferrite core
transformer on it and several larger capacitors which are cylindrical and
mounted vertically to the board.
Before touching anything inside,
especially on that board, allow several hours to be safe since the larger
capacitors can hold a painful voltage charge for some hours.
If you see signs of overheating
such as discoloration of the board material, it may not be repairable but if
you can find a part number on the board, you might be able to buy the power
supply and install it yourself.
If there are no signs of heat
damage to the board, there may be companies offering to repair it as a
subassembly instead of repairing the whole set which could be much more
expensive.
If you choose to replace or have it done, the power supply still may not be at fault since most
are capable of switching on and off if a downstream problem is causing an
overload.
BTW, from what I have read about Vizio, I think they are close relatives to iLo which was also sold by Wal-Mart.
Quality control anyone?
SOURCE: VIZIO TV Black screen. Cannot turn off TV without unplugging.
I had a similar problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I
left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. I didnt hear an arcing sound though.
There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light
was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the
buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then
start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do
the same thing all over, no pic or sound. I would check the ceramic fuse first on the board that gets power from the plug.
HOW I FIXED MINE: I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com
(you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with
all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up,
disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine.I used
both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me
$144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the
vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.

For me the part number was either (depending on the vendor) : 0171 2272
2174 or it was 3632 0212 0150. Check your circuit and see if any of
those numbers match up.

For the cheap guy like me who will probably do more harm than good:
Also check for the F3 Fuse on that same main input board. It is located in the upper right corner. Hard wired fuses; very small. You will see F1-F4 (F4 is empty). You can solder a replacement fuse right over it. I would recommend piggybacking the fuse with a fuse you can replace. Will need the holder and a new fuse. 6 bucks.
Doesn't solve problem, but I can go another 2 1/2 years and the wife won't blame me for screwing up the TV in the first place.

Just got my vizio with this problem fixed for free, out of warranty. Call tech support and tell them that your tv was stuck on the vizio logo. They will have you power cycle it, which won't work but just go with it anyway. Eventually they will say that the problem is a result of a failed system update and that you need a new mainboard and will have someone sent to fix it.
