I got a new computer and need to install Maxtor on my new machine. How do I do thei?

If you mean the Maxtor disk utility that comes with raw hard drives, it is NOT necessary to install this in order for the drive to work. If the new computer already has an OS on it and is working, what part of the Maxtor utility is it that you think you need? The OS has all the tools you would need to work with the disk. Or you could always download a 3rd party app to do the specific task. If this is regarding an external drive, again the new computer ( and OS) will have whatever tools you would need to work with the disk. In fact you should only have to plug the external disk into the USB port and the new computer will find it and ask how you want to use it, etc. The Maxtor disk utilities that came with raw drives is pretty much obsolete when used with a current Windows or Mac OS.

Needed is an operation manual "how to" for HGST Touro 4TB external hard drive machine just bought. Want to know how to transfer files from computer to external storage?

FIRST the short ANSWER; Open Windows Explorer and drag and drop files/folders to new drive.

LONG ANSWER; Connect drive, during boot up of PC, and ENTER (CMOS) SETUP. See if drive is listed.

IF LISTED resume boot and see if Windows FINDS new Hardware and installs it. If so go to short answer.
If not seen by windows but seen by CMOS the drive must be PARTITIONED and then FORMATTED. OR

IF disk came with install CD run install to assure all needed USB drivers are present for windows to install disk through USB port.

Once USB drivers are installed reboot PC and see if Windows finds new hardware.

IF windows still does not install new HD but CMOS shows drive is present, the drive needs to be partitioned.

To partition new drive type DISKPART at dos prompt or in START RUN OPEN and press enter.

At the DISKPART> ( prompt ) type LIST DISK then press enter.

Example: DISKPART> LIST DISK press enter

FIND the number assigned to the new drive in the list (#), then type SELECT DISK #

Example: DISKPART> SELECT DISK 2 press enter

the info returned in the dos window should be;

Example: Disk 2 is now the selected disk

Type CREATE PARTITION EXTENDED

Example: DISKPART> CREATE PARTITION EXTENDED press enter

Now shutdown the PC then reboot. Windows should now Find hardware and install new disk.

Click START then COMPUTER the new disk should be listed.

Right click on the Drive and select FORMAT use NTFS format.

now you should be able to drag and drop files/folders to your new disk.

Windows vista recovery cd I created won't install on new hard drive

Which software did you use to create the recovery disk? Is the recovery disk a CD or DVD?

Just to recover a vista system from recovery DVDs would require at least two DVDs. Your files would be in addition to this so I would be very surprised if you have only a single disk containing both the operating system and all of your files.

A simple recovery disk would only be useful for restoring lost operating system files to a hard disk that had corrupted or deleted files. It would let you restore to a new blank disk.

If the disk only contains a backup of your data then you would need to first install an operating system (Vista or Windows 7) and then install the backup software you used to create the disk and then you could recover your data from the disk.

Izaakzakei cant get my printer connected to my laptop i have downloaded the driver but its still not working

Hello,

You need to install the softeware first with the printer unplugged from the computer!

Insert your softeware disk and restart your computer, if computer doesn't detect new software when it is rebooting....than go into your control panel...click on install new software.

Once that is installed, you'll need to restart again with the printer hooked up this time.

Again, if computer doesn't detect new hardware, go into control panel, click on install new printer, you will have to select the make and model, or if you have the disk, select have disk, then next...you computer should install the hardware for you printer.

After installed, restart again...to see if if new software and hardware is detected and is being installed.

Go to your printers, from your control panel, and see if your printer is there, if not select, add new printer, it will take you through the process from there. Make sure you select this to be your default printer!

Happy printing!

I have a Asus pentium4 desktop it calling for a recovery disk, the screen comes up system 32 put recover disk which I don't have.

The disk-drive that is storing your copy of Windows has died.

So, when you turn the computer on, the disk-drive cannot be accessed, and Windows cannot be loaded, and so your computer displays that "please insert recovery disk" message.

Minimally, you need to buy a new disk-drive, install it, order a new set of "system recovery" CD/DVD disks from ACER, and reinstall Windows.

It might be time for you to buy a brand-new computer, which will be faster, and will run Windows 7.
Your existing keyboard/mouse/monitor/printer devices can be used -- you can buy a "bare" system, with Windows 7 pre-installed, and save some money (over buying brand-new "everything").

Lost installation disk for microline 520 printer

Hi,

Did you check on-line with OKI? If they do not have it, check used computer stores on-lne and ask if they have it. Perhaps they can burn you a disk for a small fee.

Does you new computer have it in their database?

Go to Printer install, and check the OKI database in MS windows. Might be there. Just install and go to work.

Cheers.
