HP OfficeJet 6400 sorts pages automatically when scanning.
When I scan a document with more than 10 pages, my HP OfficeJet 6400 Series Printer automatically sorts the paper if there is a page # listed on it. Example...Document with 15 pages, each is numbered Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, etc. at the bottom. The scanner somehow picks up on this & sorts them in it's own order. Pages will go # 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, then go to # 2, 3, 4...so on. This is big issue with large documents that I would like to email for a customer to read in a PDF file. They have to either skip around on the screen or print & sort by hand once they get it.
Any suggestions???

You will need to use the automatic document feeder and there should be an option in the scanner software settings to tell it you are scanning a legal document.
To automatically scan and print, you need to use the automatic document feeder (for letter-sized documents) and have the HP Automatic Two-sided Printing Accessory installed.
Then to use the duplex printing feature, you need to set the printer properties to use the duplex feature. In Windows, open a document to print then click on File Print. Choose Setup and then Properties or Preferences (depending on your OS). Then click on the Features tab and set Two-sided Printing to Automatic. (This is a drop-down menu on the Features tab.)
You also need to set the scan settings for two-sided in the HP Solution Center. (If you just want to copy the document, you can set this from the Control Panel on the J4680.)
If you want to do this manually, you can scan each side of the pages. Then print them one page at a time. Then when the ink is dry, put the page back into the paper tray. (Note: this could result in paper jams.) The printer prints on the underside of each page put into the paper tray with the top of the page printing on the forward part of the page.
To scan a document, open your HP printer ICON on the desktop screen. Then choose "scan" and either picture or document. Make sure you put your paper that you want scanned into the printer before you begin. After you choose scan and picture or document it will automatically pull the picture from the printer and bring it to your computer screen. Then you either accept or reject it. If you dont have your printer software installed go to HP's website and download the full software to run the officejet and install it. You will know if you have the software by checking to see if there is a printer ICON on your desktop.
(1.) Start / All Programs / HP / HP Viewer / Scan Document (icon is in left margin) (2.) A small screen appears entitled "Select Source", and provides the "HP Officejet 6200 Series TWAIN" option. Highlight this then click "select". (3.) I accept the default provided on the next screen (i.e., radio buttons for "Document" & "Scan for editable text"; "Scan to:" (drop box) "HP Document Viewer; check "Show Preview" box; then click "Scan". (4.) After a brief pause, my printer scans, then the HP Document Viewer screen on the PC provides a small image of the scanned document and allows me to click the "accept" icon. (5.) After "accepting" the scan into the HP Document Viewer, it takes a minute for it to appear in the "viewer". Notice that the "View Thumbnails" tab is highlighted at the top of this screen. Click the check-box next to the scanned item then click the "View Page" tab just to the right of the "View Thumbnails" tab. (6.) The new screen should show a larger version of your scanned document. Now notice the "Save As" icon in the upper left corner. Click that, then "yes" to warning default screen, then select a file name and location to save it into. (7.) Before clicking save, click the drop box next to the "Save as type:" and select one of the pdf options. Mine offers: "PDF 1-bit", PDF 8-bit Grayscale", and "PDF 24-bit Color" options. Choose one of them then click "save". (8.) You should then be able to find the scanned pdf file in the directory you selected to save it under.
Note that you may need all of the HP printer utilities and tool software installed for this to work. If you don't, you may need to uninstall/reinstall the printer software.

What do you mean scan? Is it from the printer to the computer? Or just plain copy? When you want to scan to the computer, you need a software that can scan multiple pages. HP's document feeder can copy and fax multiple pages, so if the software supports multiple pages scanning, then I'm sure it can.
