We have the same problem with our Coolpix L11...Went to change battery when battery was low and lens would not go in, replaced batter and lens appeared stuck, this also happen several days after buying it, I gently pushed lens in and it was fine up until now...I have tried to push lens in and now lens cover came off...I actually shipped camera to NIKON for repairs however, they want $96.00 to repair a $149.00 4 month old camera...Doesn't make sense...However, I will try and get it unstuck myself, any suggestions...Nikon claims it's damage, but the camera was not dropped so they won't repair under warranty.. I have never had a NIKON before, and won't buy one again...I purchased Fugi Fine Pix and Cannon and never had a problem...

It worked. I just gently nudgged the extended(stuck) lens to one side by hand. (the side which had the gap.) There was a click sound and the lense housing fell back in place. Sweitched off and switched on again and the lense started working fine. thanks.

The zoom lens was almost closed, but jammed with the lens cover partially closed in a "v" shape. Pushing steadily and firmly with my fingers on the edge of lens, the lens cover eventually closed. That release the jam and now works fine!

I just fixed mine (nikon coolpix L11) which was dropped. The camera shop said it couldn't be fixed so it has been sitting in my desk drawer for over a year. I pushed the lower part of the lens ( the part that is stucked) towards the extended part and it popped back into place. I'm feeling like god now.

I am so glad I stubbled upon this answer, I just got my Nikon Coolpix s3300 a couple weeks ago and somehow the lens got stuck, I slightly moved it as suggested and now its working perfectly again! Thank you, I'm glad I tried this before sending it in to Nikon :)

I had this same problem on my Nikon COOLPIX L3, and in order to fix the problem I used a small eyeglass screwdriver kit and carefully inserted a small flat head in between the lense and the housing where the lense covers slide into and carefully unlodged the sliding lense covers which by the way I wasn't able to tell that they were lodged until I had cleared them and the lense started operating correctly. hopefully this helps others.

I have the same problem. I'm in the middle of disassembling it right now. I should have the lens assy out tonight.
Taking it apart is fairly straight forward, the screws are obvious and you need to gently pull it apart. Careful you don't get a shock from the big capacitor used for the flash. It holds a charge. I'll let you know if the lens assy is repairable or if it is just a replaceable assy

If you shake the camera a bit and hear some rattling sound from inside the lens tube, spring(s) came off the mounting hook which resulted in blocking the return track. Lots of camera lenses have the same problem. Quite a skillful task to be fixed by novice.

I don't know how you messed up with the lens. If you see the retangular shape at the lens front is not sitting horizontally, or you can freely turn the lens tube. It's time to bring it for service or buy a new one. I would guess, the charge for repair is higher than the market price of the same model.

I love you, SSR_MAgnum. So much. Right now.

I did exactly what SSR said - Look at the lens from the side. If it is tilted in one direction more than the other, get one of those really small eyeglass screwdrivers and (gently!!) insert it into the side that's lower, and ease it up. It scratched up the housing for me a little, but it got my camera working perfectly again.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

I dropped my Nikon Coolpix in the sand. The lens got jammed and 'lens error' came up when I turned it on. My last ditch effort to free the lens worked a treat. I charged the camera battery up, put the camera lens on the end of my hoover turned the hoover on, then turned the camera on. After a couple of attempts the lens was literally sucked out. I found a few specks of sand around the lens, blew them away and now the camera works fine.

If you dropped the camera, that most likely caused the little cogpieces to break some teeth, so you cannot fix it yourself... When it happened to me, I just went to the store, and I played clueless, and they repaired it (it was still in warranty). Hope that you can do it too. (it doesn't matter if it was you or anyone else who did it, nobody will admit it... but it was dropped...)

I know this sounds silly, but after taking a close look, my husband just pulled a long dog hair out of it. It works! So look closely to see if you have some dirt or something inside!

You did the right thing by trying to unstick it with a little bit of force. However it was too broken so it cracked on you. At this point you'll have to replace it.

If you're out of warranty, there arethird party place that replace them such as camera lens repairs.

If you want to do it yourself, there are also free camera repair guide websites that show you how to replace the lens, the replacement part is usually available on ebay.

My nikon coolpix l16 .. the lens has got jammed. so the 3 things dont come out .. it says 'lens error' i tried un screwing the camera to peices. and just when i took the frame of i got a eletric shock it hurt! now im scared to put it back on..:L HELP how can i fix the lens without touching anything inside.. >??

  • Montani Nov 04, 2013

Take the battery out and there is no possibility of a shock of any kind. The power in the camera battery will not hurt you any way, but removing it should relieve any doubt on your part.

  • Montani Nov 04, 2013

Beware of the flash capacitor though.

Nikon Coolpix camera lens can not go back, how to fix it, thanks

Camera lens are made retractable by means of mechanical components such as gears and motors. If it won't retract, there is a big chance that the gears were misaligned or jammed. I suggest not to attempt any tear down or disassembly as it might damage the lens. You can visit your local camera shop and have it fixed.

Nikon coolpix L11 Lens stuck

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced.

Nikon L11 lens error

Hey meghanB,
One thing you could try is placing the camera on a flat surface with the lens pointed upwards and press and hold the shutter button, while doing this turn the camera on. When you do this the camera should try to focus which sometimes will force the lens back on track. If this doesn't work you should have it looked at by an authorized service technician. You could bring it to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store and they can send it out to be looked at. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,

Lens Error Problem

Hello

there are tiny plastic gears inside and may have chipped or a small piece of sand got in causing the lens to jamb. "very fragile"

one solution is to ask a camera repair shop how much a lens mechanism would be to replace. (if cost is more than 1/2 of what you paid dont bother)

another solution is to have someone sell your camera on an auction site for parts, to make some money towards another camera purchase

I just wrote a warning about these "telescoping lens" cameras, You need to get the lens back on track. maybe steady pressure, applied to the back of the camera with the lens on a towel on a table to ensure it remains parallel to the camera body.
