Power Issues Compaq C300 Laptop has power on issues. Does not turn on even when charger is plugged in. Charger is brand new. Is it the battery or an internal problem?

Try this quick fix, if there are no issues with your charger and/or battery, this might work...
- remove battery
- make sure charger is not connected
- long press the power button for about 1 minute
- release then connect charger or power adapter, without the battery
- press power button to turn on the laptop

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Compaq Presario F700 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the Compaq Presario F700 . If it does not work with the Charger while the battery is out then I would say either your charger is bad, the dc power jack where the charger plugs into the laptop is bad or you've got motherboard issues. Does the charger have a light on it to indicate that it is on when plugged in the wall? Do you see any lights when you plug the charger into the laptop?

Take an ink pen and see if the little pin inside the computer where the charger plugs is loose and moves a bit. If so that is probably your problem. If the pin is tight and the charger works, then you've got motherboard issues.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.
Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, try another charger.

Take your battery out and stick it back in... make sure it is locked and fitted in there properly.... nothing wrong with the hard drive or virus... maybe you have the wrong battery... or AC adaptor... hope this helps :)

Hi Tim, As per my understanding you are experiencing issues with the laptop not working without a charger being plugged in.In this regards what I would suggest you do is see if the battery charges with the charger plugged in and in case the battery does get charged see if you are able to power on the laptop with just the battery connected and no charger plugged in.If you are able to get the laptop to turn on only with the charger connected and unable to power on with just the battery then it would be an issue with the battery not getting charge.So before you replace the battery please unplug all external devices from the laptop including the charger and the battery and without the charger or battery connected to the laptop please press and hold down the power button for 30 seconds after which please insert the battery into the laptop and see if you are able to turn on the laptop.This step is performed so that we could drain out unwanted static electric charges from the laptop.In case this step does not work please do consider replacing the battery since it would be an issue with the battery not getting charged. Did ur laptop works or turn on when u plug the adaptor charger?
If ur laptop turns on when the charger is pluged in, u got problem with ur DYiNG BATTERY!
Better buy a brand new battery!

Take the battery out and just hook up the charger to the laptop and see if it turns on. If it does then your charger is good and the battery is bad.

If you hook up the ac adaptor only and it doesn't turn on the laptop then that means either the motherboard or the ac adapter is bad.

See if the AC Adapter has a green light on it, if it does see if it comes on when you plug it into the outlet, if it turns on then the ac adapter is good and the motherboard is bad.
