I'm an expat, having lived in places like Singapore and India, and now in South Africa. I've got DVD's and BLURAY's that were bought in Singapore or India (or Europe for that matter) but the DVD-player I had (region-free; bought in Singapore)now no longer works and was replaced with a new one (the SAMSUNG HT-F6500W bought in South Africa). As this payer is set up for Region 2/B I can no longer play the DVD's and/or BLURAYS I bought in Singapore or India (as the codes differ). How can I get my new Home Theatre System 'Region Free' so I can play all the films I bought over the years?
Changing region codes of your Blu-ray/DVD player might not 100% work. You can try creating region free copies of your Blu-ray/DVD collection using a program named Leawo Blu-ray Copy so that you can play them on any Blu-ray/DVD players as you like. The following link will show you how to create a region free copy of your Blu-ray/DVD disc using Leawo Blu-ray Copy: How to Make 1 1 Disc to Disc Blu ray Backup with 1 Click Blu ray Copy...
1) Switch Player off then On (this is to clean-boot firmware).
2) Wait until main menu appears
3) Open Disc Tray and Close Disc Tray (May not be necessary)
4) As soon as "No Disc" is displayed quickly press REPEAT on
remote quickly use the following code for your current
region:
Region 1: Press - 2,9,3,3,4
Region 2: Press - 5,7,5,3,8
Region 3: Press - 5,6,7,3,2
Region 4: Press - 7,6,8,8,4
Region 5: Press - 5,3,8,1,4
Region 6: Press - 2,4,4,6,2
5) Your current Region will appear in the top-right corner
6) Quickly Press "9" before it disappears (It should replace
the code with a "9" in the corner)
7) Switch Player Off and then On again.
Note that REPEAT is part of the code so one smooth press of
6 keys is required.
