Change ceramic igniter on gas stove oven

Need to determine how to service the ARR-486GR from the front. The stove is in a very expensive granite counter top and will be dangerous to move. Is it front servicable?

Most ovens are servicable from the front by removing the shelves and lifting out the bottom. The lower cover may also be removable.

I have a new viking stove slide in electric top range that was installed in our kitchen with existing granite counter tops. But there seems to be a small gap between the stove and the counter. My previous...

If you are talking about a gap caused by the height of the stove, You can lower the height of the stove by adjusting the threaded leg posts on the bottom of the stove. A more difficult fix would be in raise the height of the countertop and cabinets by shimming the bottom of the cabinets.

If your gap is not a height issue, then you can experiment with some type of trim around the stove itself. Local granite dealers has an assortment of trims for issues like this.

I was able to find a number of trims for a back gap on my granite countertops and backsplash from my local European Marble and Granite.

One of the burners ignition will not turn off - it continually is sparking - i have to turn off the elec supply to stop the ignition ? any ideas

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. On the burner your having problems with the ignition control switch located in front of the gas control vale on the stem has failed. These are cheesy little switches that are thin ceramic with nothing but 2 strips of copper inside them. One piece is fixed and the other piece is movable by the ceramic switch cam. If the movable copper arm or fixed copper strip gets bent the ignition will not shut off. Also if the ceramic cam of the switch fractures it will cause the switch to stay actuated. The gas valve has to be disconnected and removed to change the switch on most units. The wires in the switch have to be unlocked by inserting a jewelers screwdriver into the holes in the switch body to release the wires. These switches are common to most every gas cook top models no matter the brand. Without your model number I can not provide you with the manufacturers replacement part number. Change the burner ignition switch on the front of the gas valve for the burner with the problem and it will work fine.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Gas ignitor keeps trying to ignite after stove is off.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. On your cook-top the gas igniters are cycled on and off by a ceramic and copper switch on the front of each of the gas valves. Some of them are in wired Series ...i.e any burner on will cycle all igniters on the cook top and some of them are in Parallel where individual burners are controlled by each gas burner control knob. Inside these tiny ceramic switches there is a flat thin strip of copper that as the gas valve is rotated a cam of the switch actuates pushes the copper strip against the fixed contact. Those little strips over time either break or get bent and stay against the fixed contact. Hence you have and igniter on when the burner control is off. The only fix is to find out which little ceramic switch on the front of the gas valve is stuck. You do it with an Ohm meter POWER off. They all should read open with the burner controls off. The one that reads continuity across the 2 wires is the bad switch.

Thanks for Choosing FixYa.

Stove top ignition doesn't stop ticking

My Dacor cooktop had a similar problem of continuously clicking igniters. I unplugged it a couple months ago and used a piezoelectric igniter to get it started. Then I looked in the Dacor FAQ and it said to clean the ceramic igniter posts with alcohol not water. I had to scrape some gunk off a couple of the posts with a knife before cleaning with alcohol. Now it works.'

I think the igniters use electrical conductivity to detect when they need to spark, so even slight invisible contamination on the igniter insulator can confuse the sensing system. Also they all seem to fire as a group, so all of them need to be clean because if any one of them is dirty then they will all malfunction.

Gas range with stricker burners and oven burner

Most likely the oven will not work because the striker is not coming on. I am not very familiar with this stove but most thermador gas oven uses a electronic igniter. the switch controls both the igniter(striker) and safety solenoid so if neither the striker or solenoid is not powered up the switch may be the problem
