I assume you are speaking of solving a system of equations with a number of unknowns. If not, please correct me. Here's an example in practice:

If you have a system of 3 equations with 3 unknowns, you would set up your matrix so that the coefficients of each variable for a particular equation are on one row. So, given equations x + y + z = 0, 2x + 3y - 4z = 1, x + -z = -1 you would type the following into your calculator: [[1,1,1,0][2,3,-4,1][1,0,-1,-1]] and press enter to make sure you typed it correctly. notice that in the third row there is a zero, since we have zero time y for the third equation. Then row-reduce the matrix (2nd > 5 > 4 > 4 or in the CATALOG as rref). You should get out the matrix [[1,0,0,-1][0,1,0,1][0,0,1,0]]. This says that x=-1 y = 1 z=0 since my first column contained the coefficients for the x variable, the second for the y variable, and the third for the z variable. The last column contains the solution, the part on the other side of the equals sign.

The distributions do not exist on the TI 89 Titanium. But you can download an application from the education.ti.com website. It is called tistale.89x. Here is the link to it.

SOURCE: solve() gives me wrong answer.

For the first problem you have to type: solve(-20^2=12^2+(2*X*(-5-3)),x)
Also, make sure you use the (-) key on the position number 5, just to the right of the decimal point and not the - key and on the number 3 you have type regulary subtraction - key

There isn't one. Unlike the TI-83/84, the TI-89 lets you use any name for lists. If you want a list (or any other item) named "L1" you can spell it out by pressing ALPHA 4 1.

The download should begin.
**Steps for Boot Screen:**
• Take one AAA battery out, press and hold down the Apps key while reinserting the battery to force device into the Boot Code screen.
• "Press I to install..." will appear.
Once the OS has completed installation, the TI Connect™ software will be able to detect the TI-89.

Type it like this: solve( equation1 and equation2 and moreEquations, {list of variables to solve for})

Put all of your equations right after the opening parenthesis separated by the word and, then a comma, then within curly braces each variable you want to solve for each separated by a comma.

Domain error

It's the "Exact/Approx" setting under the [MODE] key. I used to have it on "Exact" and got the domain error issue, but then changed it to "Auto" and it works. IMO, this is a really weird quirk that TI should have ironed out before releasing the TI-89.

First to solve a problem, write it like this

solve(3/x-2+21/x^2-4=14/x+2,x)

Second, for inverse, do this (note the "y=" part)

solve(y=3x^2 -2x+1,x)

The calculator will rewrite the formula as x = ...
