SOURCE: Door handle has come loose
re-attaching the door handles will require you to dettach the front door cover from the actual front door (as shown on the "parts manual") some of the units circuit may run through the door so be careful in removing the front door cover.
once it is removed, the handle mount will be exposed, place the screws if need and use compatible bushings to make sure the screw will be locked in place.
refer to the link below to get the Parts Manual and the Wiring diagram of your firdge.

SOURCE: GE top freezer refrigerator automatic ice cube
If it is leaking water in the freezer it will more than likely freeze amongst the ice cubes causing a block of ice.
It is more than likely leaking at the rear of the unit, near the valve or fill tube for the ice, this will run up the rear wall of the unit.

Your drain line is clogged. Take a small diameter pice of wire and snake out the drain line from inside the freezer.
You may have to access the back rear near the compressor and separate the drain line there and clean it further.
SOURCE: Chest freezer lid repair
if your freezer has the sping etc in each of the hinges, then yes take them off. If your freezer has a torshon bar type spring, DO NOT take the hinges off, as you will not get it back together
i have always replaced liners with the door attached. The lid of the freezer is going to bow out of shape when you remove all the screws and take the old lining off, so you need to replace the lining and leave the screws loose so you can realine the door bit by bit.
it is a bastard of a job, and i wish you all the best.
