"no disc" message when disc is inserted

My Sony Blue Ray will not play, when a disc is inserted it shows "no disc" as if it is not recognizing that the disc is loaded

The problem is the same . Display indicates no disc even though there is one inserted and something internally is trying to read it. Just now out of warranty. Sony Tech said to re-boot by way of unplug, wait one minute and try again. I tried that and still the same result.

I have the same problem with a brand new out-of-the-box S350. Played one movie for 45 minutes then stopped. Now it won't read any discs. Updted with latest firmware before playing frisr movie, also.

Play's blue rays but states "can't read disc" when a dvd is inserted. The unit is only a year old & played dvd's fine until recently. Contacted sony & they want $150.00 just to send it in with no guarantee they can fix the unit. I'm done with sony products. The unit contains pioneer parts which is a far superior player.

First, try another DVD disc on your DVD player that can be played on this player before to see if it's the DVD player's issue. If the disc can play, then it's probably the disc' s problem.

In this case, how to solve the "no disc" problem? Use a lint-free cloth and some denatured alcohol or water to clean the disc and remove any dust or smudges that may prevent the player from reading it properly. Reinsert the disc into the player and press "Play" to see if cleaning the disc fixes the "NO DISC" error.

If the disc is still can't be played, a more expensive option is to use a commercial lens cleaning disc. A lens cleaning disc looks like a DVD with tiny brushes for the lens; it is inserted and "played" like a DVD for the time specified in its user guide

I have the same problem with an LG BD-390. Have cleaned both player and disc. Still the same problem. I'm guessing hardware-issue.

It's something about the Burlesque dvd. I have the same problem with mine when I try and play it on my Sony blue-ray player. It's the only disc I have that it won't play. Disc is a DVD Video disc but it will no't play in the Sony player. It plays fine on other dvd players and my computer, but not on the Sony.

DVP-NS30 shows "CANNOT PLAY" message when DVD inserted

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the DVD player cannot read or play the inserted disc.
  1. Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the DVD player.IMPORTANT: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product for a list of compatible disc. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  2. Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
  3. Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
  4. Attempt to play another disc.NOTES:
    • If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
    • Some recordable discs may not play correctly because of the quality of the recording, the physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device or authoring software used.

  5. Remove the disc from the DVD player.
  6. Turn off the DVD player.
  7. Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the AC outlet.
  8. Let the DVD player remain without power for 1 minute.
  9. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
  10. Turn on the DVD player.
  11. Insert the disc into the DVD player.
  12. Attempt to play the disc.
If still persists, its time for your device to get serviced.
