I'm using a Ti-84 plus and when I try simple division it gives incorrect answers. For example, when I enter 5/2 it answers 3. When I entered 50/100 it answers 1.

You apparently have your calculator set to display no digits to the right of the decimal point. 5/2 is 2.5, which rounds to 3, and 50/100 is 0.5, which rounds to 1.

To change the display setting, press MODE, highlight the desired settings on the first two lines, then press ENTER followed by 2ND QUIT. Try setting "NORMAL" and "FLOAT" and see what results you get now.

SOURCE: TI-83 Plus No Longer Squares Correctly

when you type -2 imagine your calculator doing the equation: -1 x 2. The - sign actually stands for a -1 so when you do -2 squared your calculator is simply following order of operations. It first squares the 2 making it 4, then it multiplies the negative making it -4. In order to get around this you must use parenthese. (-2)^2.

Hope this helped

SOURCE: My TI-84 Plus gives answer as 2.145274703E14, what Is E?

E is the calculators form of scientific notation. so 2.145274703E14
is really 2.145274703 x 10^14 or 214527470300000

Why is my ti84 giving me wrong answers when I use trig functions?

Your right you should be in degree mode. However, my guess is you are somehow entering in cot wrong in your calc. Recall cot = 1/tan! In your graphing calculator enter: 35(1/tan(61) = 19.4.
Hope this helped!

I have a TI-84. It gives me a syntax error when I try to enter problems with negative exponents.

Use the (-) key (just to the right of the decimal point key) instead of the - key when entering a negative number (not just exponents).
- is used to subtract one value from another. (-) is used to negate a value. - operates on two numbers, (-) operates on one.

5/4x-18=-3 Ti 84 plus One: just press enter/solve Two: press 2nd Test (Math) then press enter Every time I put in and equation using the above method for the equal sign. it either takes me back to...

If you wan to solve an equation using the SOLVE feature you enter it as follows (your example)
You should rewrite it as 5/4*X-18+3 (= 0). Implicitly, the calculator assumes that the right side is ZERO and you do not enter any right side nor an equal sign.
Type in
5/4 [*] [X,T,theta, n] -18 +3 [ALPHA] [ENTER] (SOLVE)
You should get an answer -780/47 or the decimal equivalent (depending on display mode.)

Make sure you have the proper angular mode set. The TI-84 can work with degrees or radians.

Press MODE to bring up the mode screen. Use the arrow keys to highlight either "Radian" or "Degree" on the third line and press ENTER. Press 2ND [QUIT] to exit the mode screen.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post giving an example of a calculation and the answer you're getting from the calculator.

Two ways:

2ND [square-root] ( 8 7 . 3 4 / 5 ) ENTER

8 7 . 3 4 / 5 ENTER then 2ND [square-root] 2ND ANS ENTER

The first sequence takes the square root of 87.34/5, the second sequence calculates 87.34/5 then takes the square root of the result.

Enter the fraction for example: enter 8/12.
The answer will be .666666
Then click Math (which is located under the Alpha button).
Click the ->Frac button (the first one).
It should come up as Ans->Frac.
Click Enter.
It should now read 2/3 which is 8/12 reduced.
Note: I have a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, and the TI-84 Plus might not have this function, but that is how I do it on my TI-84 Plus Silver Edition

A fraction is just division of the numerator by the denominator.  So all you have to do is enter the division symbol in place of the fraction bar.  If you are trying to enter a mixed fraction: for example 3 3/5 enter: (3+3/5) were the / is the division button or your calculator.
