camera lens stuck and will not retrack or shutter close. New batteries did not help the problem.

  • cowgrl4god May 16, 2009

Apparently I have the same problem as everyone else. The camera lens is all the way out and won't retracted nor will the camera turn on...

is the camera lens stuck or fallen?

I can tell you what worked for me. First, remove the batteries. Second, remove the memory. Third, wrap a paper towel around the camera. And last thing to do is to put the camera in a plastic bag and stick in the freezer for about 45 minutes. Pull it out of the plastic bag, put batteries and card back in camera, and start taking your pictures again. This is a temporary fix. When it acts up again, repeat the steps again. Good luck

This problem is frequently due to weak/worn out batteries or corroded battery terminals inside the camera. If charging/replacing the batteries does not clear the problem, remove the batteries and wipe the terminals with a soft cloth (heavy corrosion may require a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue left in the camera by the cleaning. Clean the terminals on the batteries in the same manner, and then replace them in the camera. This cures most problems, but if it doesn't work for you, check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/repair/troubleshooting/troubleshooting.jhtml?pq-path=6198

It uses a simple Q&A format to diagnose problems and propose solutions.

My camera will not stay on is off and stuck with lens out

If the lens doesn't retract on most digital camera the camera also will not turn ON. It is connection or wiring between camera power and camera lens.
What Kodak Rep will ask you to do are:
1. Remove the battery and the memory card of the camera
2. Check if your using a recommended battery and if its new or fully charge. batteries for Z1275 are Ni-MH rechargeable; CRV3 Lithium; 2AA Lithium
3. Insert the batteries back in the camera in correctly
4. Set the camera in Auto mode (its the camera icon on the dialing mode of the camera)
5. Try to turn it ON
If still will not turn ON and the lens will not retract
6. If your using a rechargeable battery Kodak Rep will ask you to charge the battery until its fully charge.
If your using a disposable battery they will ask you to try to use a new battery out from the box.
After all those steps still the camera failed to work, it will be send for repair. The number of the Kodak support line is 1 800 235 6325 (23KODAK)

Kodak Easy Share Z1275 stuck lens

**** a very common problem with most cameras. There hasn't been much of a solution for this problem except to try to wiggle the lens zoom while pushing and holding the power button.
Also make sure you have brand new batteries installed. Even the slightest dead battery will cause a problem.

My Z1275 kodak camera's lens wont retrack. turn it on and then it goes right off.

Remove the batteries and clean the battery contacts inside the camera with a soft cloth (a heavy buildup on the contacts may require cleaning with a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that the cleaning leaves in the camera, and then reinstall the batteries. This clears most power-on problems, but if yours persists, check the Kodak troubleshooting guide at:

How to install lens set

There may be an adapter you have to buy first. Otherwise they should just screw right onto the lens.

KODAK Z1275

I semi resolved the problem with my Kodak Z1275 with this suggestion; Step 1, making SURE the batteries are good. Then, position the camera with the lens pointed up or down (depending on stuck lens position, USE GRAVITY AS YOUR FRIEND) and gently tap on the lens just as you turn on/off the camera. You may have to do this several times before the camera will close the lens. From my research this camera has a faulty mechanism for the lens which causes the software to recognize a lens failure thus shutting down the camera. Poor designed lens mechanism! I now am using my camera again, but regularly have to remember to allow gravity to assist in lens opening (turning on) and lens closing (turning off) as well as occasionally giving it a light tap or in extreme cases lightly assisting the lens opening/closing. Hope that helps! Oh and I don't suggest buying another Kodak camera!
