Picture goes dark

When I power up my tv I get an excellent picture. Colors are good, sharp and bright. As the tv is left on and warms up (about 30mins) the brightness goes away. The color turns to black but you can still see video shapes but they are dark. Then the Tv set comes back to a good, sharp and bright picture. Eventually the dark picture stays on. There is no problem with the audio.

Check 'brightness' and 'contrast' settings in (usually) 'picture' menu. Use a recording (DVD etc.) of a dark scene to adjust the picture. My TV (not Sharp) has several pre-programmed picture settings. If yours has that, maybe one of them will be good. Otherwise, use manual settings.

I just need to adjust the resolution on this TV. NO ONE at RCA could seem to help me. Thank you.

hi,
did u mean to adjust the picture setting then go for the following
1 press menu on the remote
2. using down arrow select picture quality and press ok. available options in picture quality and its use is listed below. you can use it according to your preference.

Basic Picture Control- Displays the five slider controls for adjusting

the way the picture looks.

Contrast Adjusts the difference between the light and dark areas

of the picture.

Color Adjusts- the richness of the color

Tint Adjusts the balance between the red and green levels

Black Level Adjusts the brightness of the picture

.

Sharpness Adjusts the crispness of edges in the picture.

When exiting this menu, the Save Personal Picture Preset choice list will

them easily if someone changes the settings.

Picture Presets Displays- a choice list that lets you select one of three

preset picture settings: Bright Lighting, Normal Lighting, Soft Lighting

or Personal Picture Preset. Choose the setting that is best for your

viewing environment.

Auto Color Displays- a choice list that lets you turn on the feature that

automatically corrects the color of the picture. (This is especially useful

for tracking realistic flesh tone colors as you switch from channel to

channel.) Choose On or Off, depending on your preference.

Color Warmth Displays- a choice list that lets you set one of three

automatic color adjustments: Cool for a more blue palette of picture

colors; Normal; and Warm for a more red palette of picture colors. The

warm setting corresponds to the National Television Standards

Committee (NTSC) standard of 6500?K.

Video Noise Reduction Displays- a choice list that lets you turn on the

feature that automatically reduces noise from the picture. Audiovariable

enables the TV to automatically adjust noise reduction level;

Ballast Lamp provide back light in DLP TV and if its bad / broken TV wont power up. If lamp is weak, dark or less bright picture will come in screen. Color wheel is responsible for colors in picture and if its broke, TV wont power up and common problem with color wheel is high pitch noise while it spins.

Thanks!

Adjust backlight respectively asin the brighter the room the higher the backlight setting the darker the room the lower if you go below 16(if the room is totally dark, turn backlight to 0 and bump up brightness 3 or 4.

Good luck

p.s. the cinema setting is pretty darn good for out of box calibrations just turn off high contrast, colors, tru motion for normal non 100% computer generated movies for example, finding nemo and the rest of the animated movies look excellent with tru motion regular film is too video like it looks like soaps to me but hey you may like it so whatever floats ur boat do you have blu ray player, well if ur going to get one get the bdps350 as it does 24fps excellent and well so does your tv it actually uses 5:5 pulldown which is great. (leave tru motion off when feeding 24fps/ real cinema!)Great tv pick dont follow the hype lg is a good brand. lol no i dont work for lg just sick of the sony, samsung, sharp fans. As far as lcd goes lg70 is it right now. I didnt calibrate for sd but i would say they should be pretty close honestly. ill check when i get time.

Brightness of picture

If you feel good about opening your set then you can try this: Look for the flyback (high voltage) transformer, with the thick red wire which goes to the top of the picture tube. There are 2 controls on the flyback transformer, focus (top) and screen (bottom)Turn the brightness and contrast all the way down and then increase the screen control until you see retrace lines, and then back it down until those lines just vanish. Return the brightness and contrast to normal and adjust the focus control, if necessary, for a nice sharp picture. Let me know if that brings your brightness back.

Picture adjustment questions

*The brightness control setting determines how bright your picture will be. *The contrast control sets the gain of the video circuit. This determines the difference between dark and light scenes. Low contrast settings make the picture "hazy". High contrast settings make the picture more distinction between dark and light scenes. *The sharpness control determine the frequency response of the video circiut. High sharpness settings give better resolution but also shows more noise in your picture. Lower sharpness settings smoothe out the picture removing noise but also fine detail. It needs to be set for the best all around picture. *Picture Enhancement is pre-set adjustments which give you different picture qualities. You just select the one you like. Stargazer

Brightness and volume

The dark picture is a bad capacitor for the screen or drive voltage for the picture tube driver transistors. The other problem of streaking is one of the same. Thats the indication that a capacitors defective . It could in a rare cas ebe a defective or gassy crt as well but 99% of the time when a crt is said to be gassy its nothing more then poor drive to the crt. Good luck
