Chipper is jammed. need to know how to unjam

i dont know if its automatic or manual,

Hi Alan:
You don't specify what make it is, or if it is powered.
If air, disconnect from supply, remove any staples from magazine, and attempt to discharge.
There will be allen head screws holding the firing mechanism assembly together. Always treat it as if it could discharge.
Carefully loosen the screws and try to remove the jammed staples with a small screwdriver. You may need to actually dis-assemble it to get it unjammed.
Clean parts, oil, and re-assemble.
Should be fine.

Try spraying some WD40 into the cutting blades then turn it on to forward it may unjam itself.

set pedal to 1/2 play.
or are you asking how at the hands level?
you unjam the jam nut, and turn the adjuster, set play and set jam back.

by jammed I take it you mean a nail has jammed the driver? If that is the case there is really no easy to unjam it. But unplug the air hose and turn tool upside down and wearing safety glasses and gloves you can try and take a punch smaller than the nose piece and try hitting the driver to unjam nail. If it is another problem please let me know and I will try and help more.. Sometimes we used to have to remove the nose and heat and it goes on but hopefully it is not that bad

You need to clean the encoder strip, the clear strip behind the carriage. You can wipe it carefully with a damp Qtip because with too much ink on it the carriage thinks it's not moving.

Check to see that bag is attached correctly as it has a kill switch.

could be improper bond weight or thickness of paper, too much paper in the tray, or the wheels on the feed rail inside is broken or needs to be cleaned

first off, unless you know that the paper is there, it's a possibility your machine is just saying or acting as if there is a jam when actually there is something giving a false reading or a failed part rendering it unable to print. Otherwise, if you happen to know where there paper is jammed at, attempt forcing a heavier stock paper through. say the jam is between two rollers attempt pushing a cardstock or index card thickness of stock through the rollers to attempt pushing the paper backward which might either remove the jam and make it removeable elsewhere, or make it so the machine can try to feed the paper through again this time allowing you to reach it.
