Try a new needle--one that is for the fabric being sewed
clean under the needle plate and in the bobbin area for lint
rethread the machine top and bobbin
if the bobbin is top loading make sure the bobbin is inserted into the bobbin case correctly
if the bobbin is side or front loading then also make sure the bobbin case is inserted into the machine correctly
make sure the bobbin is not warped
make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
Thanks for the reply, have solved it now. I think it was the cheap thread I bought, clogging up under the needle plate and incorrect tension. I've only had an electric machine for a month, so still learning. My previous one was a hand operated Singer, a family heirloom which we think was purchased in the late 1890's, which pretty much sewed everything. Always change the needle for a new project, hubby's cleaned under the plate for me as I couldn't unscrew it, rethreaded with branded thread and all working perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

SOURCE: Machine stops and sews in place
sews only one stitch at a time and have to wait a few seconds before it will do this

Make sure you have threaded the machine from right to left, it sounds like the needle thread is trapped under the lower looper thread and cannot form a stitch.........start the threading over from scratch like this:
Is there a diagram for how to thread on the inside of the door ?
Follow that slowly and carefully to make sure you have not missed any thread guides on the way, as each one needs to be followed through to ensure correct tension and thread progression.
If you are certain that all threaded correctly, did you have a fabric jam and pulled it loose ? If so, the timing may well be affected.
Post an update and we'll get this right.

The top of the machine is not threaded correctly. First raise the presserfot then rethread the machine. Bottom looping is usually caused by a lack of top tension. There could allso be a bur on the hook.

This machine is 35 years old, have it serviced !

Change the needle and then using the side wheel wind through the stitch process manually. If the needle is still hitting something down under the needle plate, then your timing is out, take it to a mechanic.
