Same problem here. Trying the solution offered as I'm writing this.

  • sk_flynn Mar 01, 2009

We already tried running the machine empty, without adding any soap. Each time it stops and either says "F" or it says "Sud". There is nothing in the filter trap and I can hear water draining although it isnt draining it all. It leaves several inches in the basin even if i reset it over and over till it completes the cycle. Any ideas? I have tried turing it to drain/spin, but sme result. Help!!! Thanks

  • cll1764 May 23, 2009

I'm having the same issue. Every load I do takes 1 hour and 45 mins also. Ricidulous. I'll try the drain/rinse suggestion with empty load. Additionally, you might try unplugging the washer for a minimum of 1 minute. It's suppose to reset the washer.

    Dear Angie:
Thank you for your Post. To reset the washer, you need to unplug the power for a minimum of one minute, but no more than 5. Sometimes you may need to unplug the unit a second time. If the error code persists, you may need to schedule a service call. Please email us at [email protected], with your name, phone number, street address, zip code, model & serial number with date of purchase, and a brief description of the issue. We look forward to your reply.
    Thank you.

Just take off the bottom kickplate (3 screws on the bottom). You'll see the pump front and center. Twist the front face of the pum slowly to the left. All the trapped water will flow right out towards you. There could be a sock or some other debris there. Unclog, screw that faceplate back in and start it up.

The repair man came, charged me for a hour serice call and left in 5 minutes. He deduced that it was draining fine and to call him once an error code registered and he would be back - obviously for another service call. He said that if it is the pump he would fix it for under $300 otherwise, I should buy a new machine. What a rip off! Ran a couple of loads and got a "SUD" error code - followed your directions and the machine is back on line. I uncloged a pen from the pump that was preventing the pump impeler from spinning.

Thanks so much for this advice. I opened it up and sure enough, found a sock clogging it.
You just saved me a ton of money on a service call - thank you!!

This worked incredible. I will clean this little trap. You would not believe what was in there. How did it ever get in there?? This saved me a few hundred dollars in a service call. Thanks to who ever posted this fix!!!

  • jennykoong Sep 10, 2011

Wunderlichma, thank you! I just spent a very satisfying friday night following your instructions, and fished out an entire cupful of bits of bath mat rubber backing. Well worth the time spent! Your clear, simple, strp by step instructions were perfect, down to the 3 screws on the kickplate, even! THANKS!

Are the 3 screws on the bottom in the front or the back?

  • adamsdaddy Dec 04, 2011

You save me from a $120 service call! I found an infant sock down there which smelled real bad. The washer hadn't been draining consistently and came up with the SUDS error. Thanks again

Many thanks! Found 1 bra pad, $1.35 in coins, two earrings backs, and a bunch of rusted hardware. The screws are Torx #20. Again, many thanks!

  • Bobby Booey Mar 13, 2013

Awesome, this helped but to anyone out there I had to continue up the drain to totally fix it. I found a sock in the housing mentioned above, but still had SUD after. I then took off the pump (1 screw) and then the bellows on the bottom of the tub. It was plugged right at the inlet from the tub. You couldnt see it even with the pump off. I had noticed when I got the first sock the water wasnt draining very quickly. When I took the bellows off the bottom of the tub a flood of water came out. So the solution above got me on my way, so many thanks, but if anyone still has SUD try taking the bellows off too and look for an obstruction there. CHEERS!!!

uhmm... Many people mention socks getting caught in drain filter. How does a sock even make it out of the tub into the trap in the first place. I dont see any gaps or holes big enough for a sock to escape through.

The SUD message relates to overdose of detergent detected during the Wash Cycle. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent or excessive suds. If too much detergent was used, run the washer through a Rinse/Spin cycle, then a Normal cycle, without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. Good luck

  • Jason Moore Mar 14, 2015

Did all that nothing there still have sud code.

Found the three screws at bottom of washer and in the trap i found a sock causing the 'SUD" error. Many thanks for this tip. Before I removed bottom panel the drain in the washing machine itself underneath the rubber seal at position 6PM I also found three socks ha! Everything works perfect now. I now use a mesh bag for washing the socks to avoid this issue.

What does error F35 mean?

It helps to have FULL make and model in such questions, but here are a few ideas

The F35 error code indicates an analog pressure sensor error. The analog pressure sensor is the component that detects water level in the washer tub. This error can usually be cleared but it will occur again if the main control board still detects a problem with the signal from the analog pressure sensor.

How do I fix my washer that only says 'sud' constantly and won't work at all? Whenever I try to start a cycle nothing happens. Whenever I push a button nothing happens. Please Help.

http://whirlpool.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2948
Hi please go to this above link, it is all explained at length what is going on and what to do.

This error code indicates that excessive detergent suds occurred during the cycle.
If a "Sud" or "Sd" error code is displayed, or if you can see excessive suds in the window:
There are too many suds in the washing machine. The washer will not be able to spin out water with the excess suds. When "Sud" or "Sd" is displayed, the washer automatically extends the rinse time to remove the excess suds. During this time, the washer pauses the tumbling and adds water for additional rinsing. This pause allows the bubbles in the suds to break. This pause and rinsing are necessary and may occur several times to eliminate the suds. See the animation below for more information.
  • If you see "Sud" or "Sd" with the Rinse status light on, the washer is in the process of removing suds. Let the cycle continue.
  • If you see "Sud" or "Sd" and the Cycle Complete light is on, the washer detected too many suds during the cycle and your load may not be fully rinsed or water may not be fully removed. You may want to select a Rinse/Spin cycle for further rinsing.

What does SUD mean?

SUD means a detection of suds in the machine. These machines are very sensitive to over sudsing. Try adding just plain water or bleach to break down the suds level. They say to use 1/4 of the detergent you would use in an older machine.

If you see "Sud" or "Sd" with the Rinse status light on, the washer is in the process of removing suds. Let the cycle finish

If you see "Sud" or "Sd" and the Cycle Complete light is on, the washer detected too many suds during the cycle and your load may not be fully rinsed or water may not be fully removed. You may want to select a Rinse/Spin cycle for further rinsing.

Whirlpool duet washer flashing sud then f21 ????????

The "SUD" error is in direct relationship the other error code. "F21" is a Long Drain error. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1484065-f21_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

If something is preventing water from pumping through the drain pump, you will often get a "SUD" error as air is developed in the pump. Make sure you double check all the drain lines as well.

If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know before you rate the solution. I hope this helps you.

Error code

Our new Whirlpool Duet had the same problem after only three months of use. We contacted Whirlpool since the washer is still under warranty. The issue is a "bad pressure switch". The part number is W10156252. Service company replaced the part yesterday, and the washer is working like normal. Whirlpool nor the service company had any explanation why the part would go bad in such a short time. No charge since the washer is under warranty.

WARNING - There must be a shortageWe were initially told that the part was backordered for 2 to 3 weeks. We even tried to obtain the part through other vendors and got the same time frame. Furious with the potential of being without a brand new washer for 3 weeks, we spent many hours on the phone with Whirlpool trying to expedite the part. After some strong encouragement and moving the issue up the chain of customer service, Whirlpool agreed to pull a part from the factory inventory where the washers are built. The only problem is that nobody could tell us when, or if, the new part would be shipped. Suddenly, the part just arrived by FedEx at our house. In all, our washer was inoperable for 1 week. Be persistent. They will tell you over and over there is nothing they can do.

If you negotiate well, Whirlpool will extend your factory warranty for an additional year.
