Shut down your machine. Yes, all the way down, not sleep or logging out.
Press the power button and then press command-option-p-r. You have to make sure you get those keys pressed before the gray screen comes up or it won't work.
Hold those keys down until your Mac reboots again and you here the startup chime.
Let go of the keys and let your Mac reboot normally.
For SMC:
Turn off your machine

If you want to turn it off, the is a switch on the bottom left side in the middle. If you want to do something else you need to clairfy what you want.
If you are using Windows operating system then click on the lower left "Start" button, click on "Shut Down", and then let the machine shut itself off. Hit the power on button on your pc and turn it back on. That is the reboot. IF for some reason the Start button is not allowing you to turn off the machine, you are in other words "hung", then Hold Down the power button of your pc until the machine turns off. You should power back on your machine and choose to boot as normal.
If you are looking at the pc from the front, take the left side cover off and ensure that the fan on the cpu is spinning when you turn the machine on. If it isn't, that needs to be replaced. If it is working, shut the pc completely down. Grasp the fan and heat sink unit and ensure that it does not move or wiggle at all. If it's loose, tighten the screws holding the fan/heatsink unit down. Try that and reply back with your findings.
Reset the circuit breaker for the dryer. Allow the motor to cool, It has over temperature protection that will shut down the motor.
The belt that turns the drum may have broken. I am not sure about this model, but most dryers have a limit switch on the base of the dryer next to the motor that shuts down the dryer when the belt brakes.
Hold th epower button down on your tower for about 5-10 seconds and it should shut off. Then you can turn it back on. If that doesnt shut it down you can always pull the power cord.
If you log off you only close your user session under windows, not turn off the computer.
If you suspend you turn off almost everything in the laptop like hardwire, cd or dvdrom and most peripherals but the computer stays on the consuming power.
If you hibernate what windows does is to store all in memory in a temporary file in the hard drive and turn off all the computer so when you turn it on again it will be as you last session with all your programs and documents you left open.
And if you turn off the computer it will close all your programs, close windows and turn off all the hardware.
