Do you have stop valves that are built into the faucet body? Some newer faucets have stops built into the unit on each side of the manifold. Make sure they are open. If you don't, then remove the guts from the manifold body and have someone turn the water on slowly to make sure you don't have something clogged. Also depending on the style have cartridge like guts and can be put in upside down. I'm not sure what you have and I wouldn't know even if you gave me the model number. If this fails, you need to contact the manufacturer. They usually have an 800 number that you can call. Good luck!

Is the hot water pressure good at other fixtures in the house? I'm guessing your newer valves have a scolding adjustment that is set very low. Check the instructions that came with the valve assembly.
hiya:) unfortunately they are not repairable, not really, but fortunately they are relatively inexpensive.($10-$20 U.S.) and it sounds like this diverter is brand new so maybe you can bring it back (just the spout) and they will give you another. either way the problem will go away w/a different spout. the only other thing i can recommend is to remove the tub spout and carefully inspect it to make sure there isn't an obstruction (like plastic or some other form of packing material) which can be easily removed. i say this because it is pretty rare for a tub spout to be defective. usually the problem you described occurs over time due to calcium(hard water) build up or foreign matter. hope this helps but if you have any more questions just ask:)
Replace valve canister- no construction- just remove after taking time to shut off water- a few screws and the job takes 15 minutes. I take for granted you have good water hot/cold to the fixture. This fix will cure most temperature balance problems.
The single lever system is a EZ care system. Note the canister can malfunction faster when exposed to untreated hard water.
adjust ur anti scold the setting is set to low when single handle shower units are shipped they are set in cold mode for safety ur install/instructional paperwork explains such and also advises on how to adjust---remove handle and on shaft will see a blue and red plastic clips that are adjustable slide towards u and move red for more hot water test water continue till comfort level is reached for hot water
Hidden under the lever is a little hex screw. Use an appropriate hex a.k.a. "Allen" wrench to remove the handle.
You might want to shut down the water service first to save your shower until later.
check ur anti-scold setting when shipped from factory unit is set cold install instructions always advise about adjusting to suit your comfort--remove handle and using the blue & red adjustment tabs set the heat to your desired comfort
the problem is probably not in the actual head but in the valve body where the diverter is attached. It is easy to google something like "how to change the washers on a faucet" and you will find step-by-step instructions on how to do so.

I took off the shower head and still only a trickle of water is coming out.

When you open up the valve are there any in-line filters? What's the model #? Are there line stops on the sides of the valve?
Remove the shower head and then turn the valve on. This will tell you whether or not the problem's in the valve.
