Green curved lines going across my t.v.

I have a JVC rear projection tv model AV56WP74. A couple of weeks ago all three colors went out of wack but I was able to align them again. Then a week later the green line at the top left habd corner curved down and I was not able to fix it. Now the convergence is all out on all three colors but especially the green which is curving. Is this expensive to fix or am I better off with a new t.v?

Maybe your lens is becoming loose, give the side of the tv a very light tap and see if there are any movements in the lines, if so, lens is coming loose

Good Morning
you appear to have a Hardware Failure in the set there are a couple ic's usually STK392-120 and probably will be a couple Bias resistors in the yoke return circuit damaged if your capable of using a Digital multimeter and have a soldering station less then a 100.00 in parts to restore it to operation if you have to have some one come out around 250.00
if repaired clean the optics they still have a fantastic picture
and will FAR out last the new sets .38 years servicing them and i have no idea what the manufactures have been thinking as everything there cranking out to day will never exists as long .
one thing to consider before repairing evaluate the set . are the colors still crisp and not mushy looking ?if you go in the menu and turn the color off look and see if the black and white is still nice and crisp if so then i would say its a safe repair

Green Convergence on a JVC 56" rear projection t.v.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

RCA 52inch TV

If the screen control for the green picture tube is set too high, then the colors will be greenish, there will be green where there should be black and there will be fine curved lines (retrace lines) in the picture. If you feel confident then you can open the set and look for the focus block which has the 3 focus and 3 screen controls. One row is labeled Screen and the green control will be the center one. Try turning that control down a little and see is the green background and curved lines go away. If they do not go away then there is something more serious wrong. If you do not have experience working on projection sets then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
