Removing transmission top bearing

I have an older,top-loading Hotpoint washing machine. I need to replace the top bearing in the transmission. there is a hex nut appearing retainer holding the top bearing. is it removable? if so. what size is it??
if not, how do you replace the top bearing. the washer is still in good working order, other than the top transmission bearing

Thanks for your help

I have black tarry stuff getting on my clothes. It's on the bottom of the basket when I look inside just in one spot. It's an older hotpoint top load washer.

It sounds like the baring has collapsed an is throwing out its sealed lubricant and coming through the holes onto your clothes, a new bearing possibly required.

Hotpoint wmf560 aquarius washing machine

BIG JOB !!! The whole machine has to be stripped down. Ie/ The complete bowl assy has to be removed from the machine, the outer bowl separated from the inner bowl, the main seal removed, and the bearings pressed or knocked out of the housing in the rear of the outer tub. If the bearings have failed , it would be almost certain that the drum shaft has worn and or been damaged. You will need a set of bearings, drum spider shaft assy, and main seal. If its an older machine, it may not be worth it.

My Amana washer makes load noises during wash cycle, what could cause that?

transmission bearings are the problem and transmission needs to be replace in order to fix the problem, in some cases some people chenge only the bearings but is better to replace the transmission at once.

My hotpoint washing machine WF620, squeeks when it is washing and spinning

On most hotpoint wash machines you cant replace or grease the bearing you have to replace the whole drum which cost around 100 pounds from hotpoint and a couple of hours labour its a common problem on hotpoint machines.
hope this helps.

I have an amana Model ALW880QAW Top Loading Washing Machine. It sounds like a bearing is going bad when the washer is in the spin cycle. I am familiar with repairing applicances and I would like to know if...

I have an Amana top loading washing machine.. The machine recently emitted a burning odor and the machine has stopped spinning. when turned to spin cycle there are bumping sounds and it no longer spins. Does this model have a belt which might need replacing or does it have a transmission and does it sound like possibly extensive transmission work. If it is the transmission, is it likely repair costs would be greater than the value of this machine?

Replace drum bearings on hotpoint aquarius wf000g

You really don't want to know how but here it is. The bearing is located in the rear shell and is not removable the rear shell has to be replaced which means removing the tub assembly from the machine and completely disassembling. With 30 years of appliance repair the last one I did took about 3 hours.

Hotpoint WMA35 - Noisy on spinning

This could be the bearings.

If it is you have two options:
1 - Buy another washing machine
2 - DIY possible for about £30 with all the RIGHT TOOLS, £100 if doing it properly. And even with the right tools this will take you about 3 hours, probably more.

To replace the bearings you NEED to have:
1) The parts - The replacement bearing kit (£30) and hotpoint recommend a new spider (£65) as well.
2) A tool to push the drum shaft from the casing.
3) A tool to remove the beaings. It is possible to buy a new rear casing with the bearings already fitted for about £70.
4) Patience and a supply of tea!

Method
1 - disconnect everything and I mean everything see number 2.
2 - remove the drum casing from the chasis
3 - take off the pulley wheel
4 - open the casing
5 - remove the drum from the casing. DO NOT USE A HAMMER as the shaft deforms very easily (good job I've a new "spider"!)
6 - fit new "spider" if using. Here is where you find the bolts are rusted completely solid from spider to drum and require drilling out.
7 - remove bearings from casing (hence the need for the bearing removal tool)
8 - fit new bearings and rebuild machine (hence the need for the bearing fitting tool)

However I stopped at number 7 due to not having the right tools and I have no idea how much the right tools cost.

Trust me, take option one! £100 is a third of a new machine!
