First open the top door, pulling out the drum. Leave the door open. Then open the front door.
Then close it slowly. While doing this, move the carousel. The carrousel is free while the
door closed and locked while it open.

Dell 3100cn laser printer poor print quality

It sounds like you've got contamination on the drum cartridge or on one of the toner cartridges.

I'm actually going to be installing black toner in my 3100cn in about 8 hours, so I'll inspect and clean each of the carts, and write up the process for you tonight.

Dell 3100cn-smudge

The print toner cartridge has a small trap door that opens to let the toner adhere to the paper. Remove the toner cartridge and locate this moveable panel on it. This roller is VERY sensitive, and can scratch VERY easy. Use a soft LINT FREE cloth to GENTLY wipe the colored roller if you see any toner build up. If that does not clear up the problem you will need to replace your Fuser Unit which will need to be ordered from Dell or a 3rd party supplier. Its a pretty easy process, and instructions usually come with the fusers. If you have a printer warranty they will fix it for you. Thanks! //CowboysfanZ
