Yamaha outboard motor manual

Hello, we have recently received a secondhand 8HP Yamaha short shaft outboard motor to use on our new dinghy, however, the water pump and fuel line need replacing. Can you please advise where I can obtain a manual for this motor? Thank you.

How to find model number on mariner outboard 4hp 2stroke engine

Hello,

Mariner 4hp are identical to Yamaha engines.
You should find a sticker on the port bracket with serial and model number.
If that sticker has disappeard, an aluminum piece is stamped in the side of the cilinder. The numbervstamped in that round pieceis the serial number. I can convert that serial number in a year/model number...

Does my 1979 johnson outboard charge the battery thru the powerpack?

Some models charged through a Magneto, but see if you can find the 1979 Year Manual. I have a 1979 engine myself in a 15Hp which is a Manual start(no battery) and I have a Sailhorse Johnson 8HP which has an electric port and is Manual start. I believe the 8HP would charge a battery as on a Sailboat the running lights needed power. The 8HP could power the lights directly.

Johnson offered options for electric start in lower HP units and options in charging systems to contain costs. You might get a better answer from someone by listing the HP of your motor. I was the original owner of the 15HP and remember the 9.9HP and others in the same Sales brochure. The Sales brochure may advertise more about the charging systems.

8hp yamaha runs hot

In most outboards, it will flow through the prop itself (through the inner prop). There should be a stream of water coming from somewhere around the back end of the motor itself, called a telltale, which visually shows that the water pump inside the outboard is pumping water up around the motor. If you cannot see this, then there is obviously a problem with the water pump or pump impeller that needs to be corrected to prevent the outboard overheating.
