Ok so my math hw only gave me the degree, minute, sec format of the angle. How do i input it in the fx 155 es to work out and find the rest of the angles, sides, etc?

Label of key [deg symbol ' "]. It is between [(-)] and [hyp]

To enter a value in decimal degrees
12.58 [deg ' "] [=] Screen displays 12.58 deg on top line and 12 deg 34' 48" on bottom line.
Pressing the [deg ' "] key while this value is displayed will show 12.58

To enter a DMS value:

Press the [deg ' "] key after each number even if one of the numbers D,M,S is nill (0).
Exemple Enter 25 deg 0 ' 48"
25 [deg ' "] 0 [deg ' "] 48 [deg ' "] [=]
Screen displays 25 deg 0' 48" on bottom line
Pressing the [deg ' "] key converts this result to decimal degrees 25.013

This showed you how to enter angles in DMS or DD. For the rest 'find the angles, etc.' you should refer to your trigonometry manual: You have the definitions of the trigonometric ratios, the sine law, the cosine law to resolve triangles.

How to use calculator on how to evaluate trigonometric functions

The FX-115ES is somewhat different to other calculators you might know. The sequence of keys is more like writing up a calculation in a textbook, whereas for "normal" calculators operations are reversed in some places.
For example, with most calculators you would type 30 [sin] to calculate the sine function of 30 degrees, with the 115ES its [sin] 30 [=].

The 115ES has all the standard trigonometric functions:
  • Standard functions (sin, cos, tan), type the [sin], [cos] or [tan] key followed by the argument.
  • Inverse trigonometric (sin?Ā¹, cos?Ā¹, tan?Ā¹), type [SHIFT][sin], [SHIFT][cos] or [SHIFT][tan] followed by the argument.
  • Hyperbolic functions (sinh, cosh, tanh), type [HYP][sin], [HYP][cos], or [HYP][tan] followed by the argument.
  • and finally inverse hyperbolic (sinh?Ā¹, cosh?Ā¹, tanh?Ā¹), its [SHIFT][HYP][sin], [SHIFT][HYP][cos], or [SHIFT][HYP][tan] followed by the argument.
Arguments can be given as numbers with mantissa (2.718), as fractions (use the fraction key below [CALC]) or as degree, minute, second (30Ā°12'45") using the [Ā°'"] key for input. To switch between degrees (1 circle = 360Ā°), radians (1 circle = 2?), or grad (1 circle = 400 gon), use [SHIFT][DRG>].

What is d use of hyp function??

The hyp key is used with the cos, sin, and tan keys to compute the hyperbolic cosine, hyperbolic sine, and hyperbolic tangent functions (and their inverses).

The hyperbolic functions are computed the same way as the trignometric functions: simply press the hyp key just before pressing the desired trig key.

I have a Sharp EL-531W.All keys work except for sin cos tan hyp.

No solution, but I have the exact same problem with a Sharp EL-531W calculator. Doesn't matter whether mode is degrees, radians, etc., and resetting with button in back has no effect.

How do I convert from decimal degrees to degrees, minutes, and seconds?

You have a key, the label of which is the degree sign, the apostrophe and the double quotation mark. It is located between the change sign key (-) and the [HYP] key.

To enter an angle with degrees, minutes and seconds you use the key to separate between numbers
Ex: 18 deg 0' 45" you press 18 [Deg ' "] 0 [Deg ' "]45 [Deg ' "] [=] As you type the calculator displays 18 deg 0 deg 45 deg but the result will show correctly. You have to press the key after the seconds figure, otherwise you get a syntax error.

While the foregoing result is still in answer memory, if you press the [Deg ' "] key the result will be displayed in decimal degrees.

The key is used to enter the DMS values and also to toggle between DMS and D.D.

Sorry to say it but the DMS key is to convert between Degrees, minutes, seconds and decimal degrees (angle units). This cleared here is how to use the DMS key on this calculator.

Step by step ho to Convert Fractions to decimals?

No post is an adequate substitute for reading the manual. Here is the meaning of some of the primary keys.
  1. hyp.: To calculate hyperbolic functions: hyp + sin calculates the hyperbolic sine, hyp + cos calculates the hyperbolic cosine, hyp + tan calculates the hyperbolic tangent (sinh, cosh, tanh)
  2. sin. To calculate the sine of an angle
  3. cos.To calculate the cosine of an angle
  4. tan. To calculate the tangent of an angle
  5. yx : y with raised x, calculates general powers
  6. ln: calculates the natural logarithm (log in base e)
  7. log: calculates the logarithm in base 10
  8. ab/c : used to enter mixed fractions; 13 ab/c 7 ab/c 5 enter the mixed fraction 13 and 7/5
  9. x10 to the X : calculates the exponential function on some calculators. used to enter powers of 10 as in scientific notation; 6.02x10^23 is keyed in as 6.02 EXP 23 (Avogadro's Number of Chemistry and Physics)
  10. (-).: This is the change sign. It negates the value of a number. If a result is positive it makes it negative, and if it is negative it makes positive
  11. deg ' " : used to convert between decimal degrees and degree, minute, second.
  12. rcl : used In conjunction with a memory location, recalls the contents of the memory ( if there is one memory M, extracts what is in M and displays it)
  13. sto: used in conjunction with the name of a memory register, stores a result or an entry in the relevant memory.
  14. M+ adds the content of the display to the constant memory M

Ho can i get deg off the top of mt calculator i think it is making my answers wrong not all but some of them when i try to check my work

Hi,
Maybe some of your answers are wrong, but I can assure you that it has nothing to do with the poor deg indicator sitting on the top of your screen.
The indicator is there to remind you that the angle unit is set to degree, meaning any number you feed a trigonometric function is considered to be in degrees, and that any value calculated by an inverse trigonometric function is in degrees.

If you prefer to work in radians or in grads, all you have to do is change the settings of the calculator.
To change angle unit:
Press [SHIFT][MODE] and choose
  1. 3:Deg for angle unit in degrees. Screen shows D
  2. 4: Rad for angle unit in radians. Screen shows R
  3. 5:Grad for angle units in grads. Screen shows G
The calculator crunches number according to your specifications. It obeys your orders. Only YOU know what you are supposed to do.

I suggest you look at the manual that shipped with your calculator. Lookk for exemples of the calculation you want. Make a note of the exemple numbers and check the appendix for the particular exemple. The appendix will show you all the key strokes.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

HOW DO YOU USE THE DEGREES MINUTE SECONDS FUNCTION

Hello,
To convert an angle from degrees (decimal degrees) to the sexagesimal notation (deg, min, seconds) use the key [DMS] the one between [(-) and [hyp].
Everytime you press the key, the displayed result is cast in the other form
EX; 12.58 [DMS] gives 12 deg 34 min 48 sec.
Suggestion: If you are doing many calculations with the sexagesimal format, use the decimal degree format, and only when you find the final result do you convert it to DMS.
Hope it helps.
