SOURCE: Failure to accept DvD Ram discs in a Panasonic DMR-E55 Recorder

Possibilities are that the laser lens needs cleaning (use a proprietary cleaning disc) or that - as long as you are sure you have original manufacturers' discs and not fakes - the discs are scratched or dirty.

You can probably recover the files using file recovery software like RECUVA which you can download and use for free as seen in the following links:

http://www.piriform.com/recuva

http://download.cnet.com/Recuva/3000-2242_4-10753287.html?tag=mncol;1

Just use your mouse to click on the links, which are the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information and items at the website indicated.

At the CNET free download page you can read about the software, check out other user's reviews, and download it to your computer for free if you want.

It is probably best to do this procedure as soon as possible. Do not record any more videos using that device and don't add or move around any data on it or some of the files may be overwritten and lost forever. Just keep the device turned off until you can remove the hard drive and access a computer to perform the procedure, or else have someone else do it for you like a technician at a computer shop.

When you connect and scan the drive using RECUVA, there should be a little circle beside each of the file names that it finds.

If the circles are GREEN, then you should be able to just tick the small selection box beside them on the left hand hand side and then click on the RECOVER button.

If the circles beside the file names are RED, then they may be just too corrupted to recover.

Here is a link to a website with some screen shots of the recovery process to help you out:

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/restore-your-deleted-files-easily-with-recuva/

If you need a program to convert file formats then you may want to try a free program called VLC MEDIA PLAYER which you can download from WWW.CNET.COM

Here is the direct link to their download page where you can read about the software, check out other user's reviews, and download it free if you want:

http://download.cnet.com/VLC-Media-Player/3000-13632_4-10267151.html?tag=main;productListing

Just click on the DOWNLOAD NOW (19.42 MB) button that you see on the left hand side of the page if you want to download it, then follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the program. Be sure to click on the yellow security bar at top of the page if necessary to ALLOW DOWNLOAD.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any details to add, have any questions, have difficulty accessing the links, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck and take care.

Joe.

Samsung DVD-VR330 unit will not accept a brand new blank DVD-RW disc---machine says 'load' for 20 seconds, before saying 'open', which it does.

The DVD-RW will work at random, some brands will wok better than others. Memprex, Sony, Maxell are 3 I can use sometimes. Once the disk is accepted it must be formatted. Click that and if accepted, first do a record for say 2 minutes to see if ti works.

If it works don't take it out until you're ready to finalize it.
That's mostly so the disk will be readable in other players, should it not want to go back in, you probably lost the record.
Don't write on the back, use a card and keep it in the cover.

Sometimes I can use those disk's in PC for data.

When i finalize a dvd on the recorder, it plays back on the recorder it was finalized on but not on other dvd players. This just started happening, It worked ok before

It can depend on many things, including: the format of DVD that was 'finalised' (for example, if you tried to finalise a DVD-RW in this unit, it will playback fine in it, but not in a normal player). Let us assume that you used a DVD-R, which is meant to be recorded once then finalised for compatible playback in all players. If that is the case, your DVD recorder might have a software issue which can only be checked by a qualified technician in a fully equipped service centre. You cannot fix this yourself, and I do not recommend online firmware updates, in case you get what looks like the right version for your model, but ends up being completely different and damages your machine permanently. You may also have a faulty digital controller board (the little board the DVD-RAM drive connects directly to) - if so, this may need to be replaced as one part; since it is not fixable at component level.

Get a quote from an authorised Panasonic repair workshop before going any further (this unit is repairable/fixable; just not at consumer/owner level). The quote will not only tell you what exactly is the issue, and what needs to be done, but also the likely costs involved to correct it.

Assuming you used the correct DVD formats for recording/finalising, and the problem persists regardless, the workshop could be your next option. Only pursue this if you want the unit restored to full operational condition and you are prepared to accept the expense, unless you have some sort of warranty.

Every disk I put in to record something says bad disk

Hi,

There's very little information about your problem, like model and disks you are using. I can give you general information.

All DVD's doesn't work will all types of recorders.

DVD Types:
  1. DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, DVD+ROM.
For More In-Deph detail of DVD Formats, Enter Here.

Check what types of disk your equipment uses. Maybe needs lens cleaner or is a equipment malfunction. If it reads, then most likely is in good shape. From my experience, I have two DVD recordable setup boxes. But one only accepts DVD-RAM and the other accepts DVD+Recordables and ReWritables.

If this can't help, you can post more detail about your equipment.

Panasonic dvd recorder wont record or play

It is also possible that you are trying to record using an already used -R or an unformatted RAM disk.

Make sure the DVD RAM is in the plastic caddy that came with the unit, and make sure that caddy is marked unprotected.
