What does polynomial function mean?

Let us backtrack so as to better jump.
An algebraic expression may contain one or several algebraic terms, separated by a plus sign or a or a minus and a sign.
Each algebraic term is the product of a constant coefficient and a power of some variable, or the powers of several variables.
Example of an algebraic term 3(x^2)(y^6)....
If the exponents of the various powers are positive integers, the term is called a monomial. In short no square roots, or fractionary powers of the variables appear in monomials. Thus 2/x, 3SQRT(x), or 1/x^5 are not monomials.
Finally, a polynomial is an algebraic expression made up of one or more monomials.
Example P(X)=(1/3)X^7-(SQRT(5)*X^4+ 16X-25 is a polynomial of degree 7 in the indeterminate/variable X
Q(X,Y)= 3(X^3)*Y^2 + 4X-5Y+10 is a polynomial of degree 5 in the variables X and Y.

HOW TO TYPE = ON FX-82

Look at the color of the ALPHA key, and find if there is a second = of the same color as the ALPHA key. If there is one, you enter it as part of a mathematical equality by pressing [ALPHA] followed by the key with the second = sign marking. However, I do not see the purpose since the calculator does no accept algebraic expression. To enter a function for a table, you select the computational mode as TABLE and the calculator will display f(x)= .

How to solve x3-3x2-4x through this fx-82MS calculator?? pls rply as soon as possible..

There is nothing to solve because you do not have an equation, nor an inequation (inequality). You need an equal sign, >,<, etc.
All you can do with this polynomial is try to factor it. Here is the factored out form
x^3-3x^2-4x=x(x^2-3x-4)=x(x-4)(x+1)
To factor (x^2-3x-4) look for the divisors of -4 whose sum is -3
You cannot do that on your calculator because is does not have a Computer Algebra System or CAS.

How do i recieve answers on the El-W535x SHARP calculator in decimals, need it for buisness class...so if you could answer that question and tell me of any other functions i might be unaware of that might...

Hi there,

My name is adieh.have a great day.

I will give a simple example on how to convert your answer into decimal form. Indicated below:

Q: Simplify 1/2-5/13 convert to decimal

Answer:

Step 1: Enter 1/2 by pressing 1>a/b>2.
Step 2: Subtract by pressing - (negative sign or minus sign)
Step 3: Enter 5/13 by pressing 5>a/b>13.
Step 4: Find the difference by pressing = (equals sign)
Step5: Convert to decimal by pressing (change)
You can find( change) on the right side of your calculator beside M+ key

I am suggesting you to visit this website http://files.sharpusa.com/Downloads/ForHome/HomeOffice/Calculators/Manuals/Archive/cal_man_ELW535B_TeachersGuide.pdf
for you to have further knowledge about various functions of your sharp calculator since you are attending a business/algebra class.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using fixya.

I need assistance understanding this algebra equation and the steps to solve it. 7+(9-5x)=5(2-x)

this is a simple algebraic equation in which we have to calculate the value of 'x' using simple operations

7+(9-5x)=5(2-x)

step 1(pen the brackets) 7+9-5x=10-5x
step 2(add 7 and 9) 16-5x=10-5x

now as 5x gets cancelled both the sides of the equal sign therefore no solution of this algebraic equation exist.

How can i do algebra and keep the pronumerals and not use the inputted number? I am using the latest casio, it is a scientific calculator (not sure which model)

It is always risky to try to answer a question about a calculator of an undisclosed model.
To be able to symbolic algebra (with variables), one needs a calculator with CAS (or Computer Algebra System). These types of calculators are special graphing calculators. ( Not all graphing calculators have a CAS.)

To get back to your question: No, you cannot do algebra with a mere scientific calculator even a recent one. All you can do is define an equation with variables A,B,C,D, Y and X and press the Solve button if it exists. The calculator will ask: Solve for X?. If you say yes, you will be prompted for the values of all letters (A,B,C,D, Y) in your equation and the calculator will search for the value of X, that makes the left side of your equation equal to the right side.

It will display the X-value and the difference L-R.

X^2-x-6=0

x²-x-6=0

Well, that's a little messy, so let's get rid of the 6.  You can do this by adding 6 to both sides of the equation (if you do something on one side of the equals sign, you have to do it to the other).  So if we add 6 to each side, we end up with:

x²-x=6

x, therefore, is obviously 3.

3² is 9 which gives us:

9-3=6.

Dont know how to add or subtract on it

Hello,
On most calculators you enter operations as you would write then on a line (a single line). This is called algebraic notation.
Say, you wante to calculate 2 +3=?
You turn your calculator on
You clear the screen if is cluttered. (there is a button for that sometines labeled A/C or AC, which stand for Clear All.

You Press the key for number 2 then the key for the plus sign, then the key for 3. You get the result after you press = or ENTER or EXE on Casio calculators. Once you do, that the screen displays 5, the summ of 2 and 3.
Tu summarize (The content of each bracket [] is a key you press.
[2][+][3]= ----> 5 Addition: 2+3=5
[3][x][9]= ----> 27 Multiplication 3 times 9 equals 27
[1][8][/][2]= --->9 Division 18 divided by 2 equals 9
[3][3][-][9]= ---> 24

Hope you will enjoy using your calculator
