Ask you service guy if he can or knows how to rebiuld your IU / drum unit. You can still get parts for that copier you probly need a new OPC drum and cleaning blade and a developer change. I belive they should last for 80k copies more or less. Are you getting black lines and bad copy quility? If not you may just have the PM / IU light ON or it is asking for a PM? It is just a counter in the copier that say's it time to replace the PM parts. They may have been replaced , but the counter was not reset. On a final note, this is one model in a long line of the same machines with alot of the same parts. I don't think it is hard to find these parts. You can buy them on line.. Under copier part....
Order the parts your self and save money and have them install them... Good Luck
SOURCE: smudge on the paper
When you say smudges, do you mean toner spot or blobs of toner on you pages? If you get random blobs of toner... You need to take out the drum unit & remove the primary charge unit & remove the drum & vac. out a small little grove that seats right below the developer mag roller... It is most likely filled with toner and is dropping on to you paper as copies are being made. Good Luck
SOURCE: Problem: Minolta EP2080 copier prints all dark
I believe "goalie39" may be thinking about a Min. 4233 - 5420 series, much older model. If you have 158K on the copier, I don't remember, it has been a long time scine I worked on a 2080. I think the drum last 60k. That means you may be almost through the third drum. You may need another new one with a new drum cleaning blade..... The optics are the mirrors that scan the document. I you make a copy and look at the mirrors and they look dusty, you will need to clean the 3 mirrors showing.. To get to them turn the copier off, on the left side you will see the paper size guide and remome the two screw that hold the glass in. Be carefull, there are 2 springs. Wipe the mirrors with a dry rag. and reinstall the glass and turn it back on and you should get a cleaner copy... Good Luck

Most likely it is the drum cleaning blade. One indicator of the drum cleaning blade going bad is that the black lines will get worse as you run multiple copies. So if you make 10 copies for example, the last copy out will be streaked worse than the first copy out. Drum cleanig blades are about $30 bucks plus whatever your local service guy charges for a svc call.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.
