If the dvd drive doesn't read the discs as it used to, first try a lens cleaner cd or dvd on it, or you can clean the lens yourself for that use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the lens.Just a quick scrub will do. Dry the laser lens with the otherend of the swab

let it be for a moment, put the drive back togehter and turn the computer on and test it.

if that its still not solved and you have the tools, will and want to attempt fixing the drive yourself then open the drive up and use canned air to clean it, follow these steps.

    Do I have to remove the drive from the tower to clean it with the cotton swab because I cannot see the lens when it is open?

    it will void any warranty you have, if you take apart the drive to be able to clean it.

If your asking which driver you would need for your CD Drive. The answer is you don't need a special driver for it. If it's not working then you could try cleaning the laser lens with a CD laser lens cleaning kit. If that doesn't work then you need to replace the CD drive.

The disc drive on my acer Aspire 5742G will not read any music cd's or dvds. I makes plenty of noise as though it is trying to open it but nothing!
The CD/DVD drive may need reseating to make proper electrical connection. Remove this drive and insert it back into the laptop.
Next try cleanibg the drive.
The laser lens maybe dirty, use a CD/DVD lens cleaning kit to clean the lens int the drive.
If this does not fix your problem then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Acer aspire 5315 fails to recognise disc when inserted.
The dvd unit has a lens that is used to read the disks - if this lens is dirty or defective the disks aren't recognized. Clean the lens using a cleaning disk that you can buy at every IT shop. If this doesn't help then you must replace the entire dvd unit - you will have to take your Acer to a repair shop.

Uninstall the Web cam Driver

Go to Acer's Support Site

Download the web cam driver and see if that fixes the problem!

Acer Aspire 5920G wont play dvd, it wont even recognise them!
If it recognises cd but not dvd it means the drive is faulty. There is 2 lasers one for cd and one for dvd. The dvd laser is faulty. It also means that it is not dirty lens because it reads cd's.
