Researchers found that the level of risk dropped even lower for people who drank two to three cups per day. This also held true for people who drank four or more cups per day. This applied to both Caffeinated and Decaffeinated coffees, so if caffeine makes you jittery, feel free to grab a cup of decaf.

If you drink it in moderation you can have hot chocolate with diabetes. It's better to make your own with unsweetened cocoa powder and then use artificial sweeteners to make it taste sweeter. You can use packet hot chocolate but you must read the nutritional information at the back so you know what's in it. You can also buy low-sugar versions.

How to Make Great Drinking Chocolate

Hot chocolate is one of thoses childhood drinks that are amazing. It doesn't matter how old or young you are - everybody loves a good hot chocolate.
I've followed hundreds of different recipes but my all time favorite is this one. It's actually a Parisian hot chocolate recipe so not only does it taste great but it sounds very fancy.
Ingredients:
2 cups full fat milk
5 oz (130g) of good quality bittersweet chocolate ie high percentage of cocoa - chopped small
2 tablespoons of brown sugar (to taste).
Method:
1. Heat the milk in a medium pan
2. When the milk is warm whisk in the chocolate and stir until melted and very hot.
3. Cook on a low boil light for about 3 minutes but whisk constantly. Make sure it doesn't boil over.
4.Taste it and add sugar if desired.
Serve in small coffee cups for a really sophisticated look.

Is it ok to drink hot chocolate during pregnancy?

Yes. Women are generally recommended to cut down on their caffeine intake during pregnancy but the amount of caffeine in a cup of hot chocolate is much less than you find in coffee or even tea.

So keep drinking your hot chocolate. Obviously an excess of anything isn't good for you, so just aim for a balanced healthy diet.

What is the difference between hot chocolate and cocoa powder?

Although the two names of drinks are used interchangeably, hot chocolate is a drink that's either made from real chocolate melted into milk or with packet hot chocolate powder. Cocoa powder is unsweetened and needs to be combined with sugar to create a sweeter drink.

In general hot chocolate is richer and sweeter than hot cocoa.

Does hot chocolate have caffeine in it? I am looking for alternatives to coffee and tea.

Cocoa solids in chocolate do contain some caffeine so any drink with chocolate in is not going to be caffeine free. But milk chocolate contains a lot less cocoa solids than dark chocolate, so the type of chocolate used to make the drink will significantly alter the amount of caffeine in it.

How do you make iced hot chocolate?

To make a yummy cup of cold 'hot chocolate', take a cup of milk and add in double the recommended amount of chocolate powder (or cocoa and sugar). Stir well and add ice cubes.

If you have time and want a drink that's even more special, you can use chocolate ice cubes in the drink.

To make chocolate ice cubes; Mix the recommended amount of hot chocolate with a cup of milk and freeze in an ice cube tray. When they are solid you can add to the hot chocolate.
