Can't get any menu options in set up mode other than "reverse indicators" "reset all" "firmware version"
SOURCE: nikon coolpix 774 menu buttons don't work
Try resetting the camera back to the factory default setting.
Remove the battery, leave it for 1/2 + hour, insert the battery and configure date time etc.
If it doesn't work then you have faulty camera.

To remove date imprint. This is the solution provided by Nikon more than a year ago. Switch on> set to green>menu>scroll down to Date Imprint.press centre/right on multi selector>select 'off.' Job done

Page 18 & 22 of the PDF manual shows where it is located on the menu and how to get there.
Page 23 states the CAMERA selects which of the 16 shots is best.
Page 48 describes Continuous mode under SPORTS.
Page 103 of the manual shows how to do it. (p91 of the printed manual)

NOTE - the PDF page does not correlate to the ACTUAL page numbers.
Type continuous in the pdf search and keep selecting NEXT until you reach the pages I have noted, or Jump directly to the page by typing it in the PAGE field.

SOURCE: Camera resets DATE and Time to Jan 2002 when
Some of these cameras cannot save the date, and has no internal battery to save the data. The best solution I have use is to buy another battery with these kinds of cameras and always have one charging, or take two batteries when you take pictures.
These older point and shoot cameras are nice, and slower than the newer ones, but will not save the data unless you keep the main battery in it, or replace the one to be charged with another battery within a very short time.
With your camcorder powered ON, and set to VCR / playback, there should show on the screen (viewer) something indicating "Menu" or a "FN" (Function) option. Select "Menu" (or Function icon to lead to the Menu). Check through the Menu options to find "Mode", and find the option for Normal Recording or playback, as opposed to "Test Mode", or "Demonstration Mode".
If this does not solve the problem, try this: Turn the camera OFF, remove camera battery, re-install battery, turn camera ON and see if that Re-set the camera. If not, it might be resolved by manually resetting the time and date. Then go to the Menu again to set Mode to normal recording or playback.
If those do not correct the problem, there is no shame in calling the camera company to speak with Tech-services. That's what they are there for.
