Whirlpool Cabrio Washer Error message code F1

Our washer gets an "F1" error message when it's got 17 minutes remaining in the complete cycle. any ideas?

Cliff
My washer was purchased in March, 2007. I just spoke to Whirlpool and they said that the issue was NOT and never was involved in a recall. After telling them that I was looking at the internet and had several links to the BBB, they graciously agreed to a one time service repair at no cost to me. The initial operator knew exactly which code I asked about and immediately said that it was an electrical issue. He stated that there was nothing Whirlpool could do since I am out of my warranty period. He did offer to set up the repair service at cost to me. This was when I asked to speak to someone in the Consumer affairs group. They were courteous but as I said earlier, not willing to fix it until I threatened the BBB. Service call scheduled for Monday Jan 12. We'll see how that works out... Same F1 problem. In fact, I also had other probems with this washer. Some are fixed, some are not. F1 problem comes up at 19 minute. If I use pause and them start, I will have to repeat that operation for about 5 or 6 times. I've noticed that the longer I take between repeating this operation, less times I will have to repeat it. It is because when it jumps to the minute 18, the problem goes away. If I pause it to play with it some time later, the timer won't count, and the machime shuts itself off. F1 will show in any mode you program the machime to work, but the mode drying, which is only 12 minutes.

Wow. I've got the identical problem. Purchased July 07. I thought it was the belt until reading your post. Curious why there is no reference in the manual to F1 error other than "call for service". Man am i frustrated. I've found several posts describing the same problem and it's not a product issue? Bull.

I purchased mine March 2007 - December 2007 before the 1 Yr Factory Warranty was to expire I was also rec'ving an error in which wasn't a letter or number; service came and located a bobby-pin and said that was the problem. The service guy asked if I wanted extended warranty. I purchased for $57.99 - however they can not locate this transaction; I have a reference number from the bank but they want the original rec'pt. I have torn my house upside down; I located a rec'pt when they came to replace a censor in March 2008 and when they came in January 2008; in January they claimed I had an $11.00 credit after the work they did; I ask why? And they can't answer the question - I have this rec'pt in which shows their work being $48.99. DUH why would I have a credit with them???? BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE WARRANTY IN DECEMBER........ So, now I am getting this F1 Error and they can't locate me extended warranty. i WANT my old washer back!

Hey people, I don't know where to begin. The tech guy just left my house. That is the second time in two months he has been here. In Dec. of '08 the dreaded F 1 code popped up, my wife called them and whirlpool agreed to pay for the circuit board, but not the labor. OK no problem, the washer was fixed for $141.00. Last Sunday another "F" code pops up, the service company ordered another circuit board and the tech come to install it today. I took off work and the tech arrives at noon, after looking at the diagnostic codes he tells me it's not the board but clothing stuck around the drum. So we take this washer apart and find NO clothing around the drum. The tech informs me that the bearings are bad and need to be replaced. Now I need to call whirlpool!
I pay the tech $69.06 for the service call, and call whirlpool and explain the problem. They first offered to pay for half of the price for parts ($404.00) WTF! Are you freaking kidding me! I calmly tell the whirlpool lady that if I pay for half of the parts and the service, I should just buy a new washing machine. Now I'm upset. She then comes back with they'll fix it and pay for everything. OK but I'm still upset and I want my money back from the previous service calls($210.06), then she threw in another 1 year extended warranty, but I still want my money back, and now I have to go to the laundromat. Corporate is supposed to call me within 24 hours, I wonder what they're going to tell me? Any Ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for listening to me rant and rave. DY

WRONG POWDER'S, TO MANY POWDERS IN PUMP PUT ONE TEASPOON OF OIL IN WHERE THE POWDERS SHOULD GO AND RUN CYCLE AND THAT WILL DESROY THEY SUDS AND ONLY USE HIGH EFF DETRG. FROM NOW ON, IF THAT DONT FIX PROBL YOU HAVE SOMETHING STUCK IN YOUR PUMP, YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE TECH TO TAKE YOUR FRONT OFF MACHINE AND GO INTO PUMP WHICH IS EASY AND REMOVE ITEM, PROBL SOCK, OR UNDYS. I HAD THIS PROBL WITH MINE.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error F1 indicates primary control failure and to resolve this you'll have to replace the machine control assembly. This error should be fixed by whirlpool as its a common issue with whirlpool Cabrio washers, you can call 1-800-253-1301 whirlpool will send a tech. to fix it and pay for the part. Please rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

F1 means the control board is shot. Call whirlpool and they should take care of the parts and labor even though your machine is out of warranty.

Whirlpool Cabrio Washer Error message code F1

HELLO, Error code F1 indicates a control failure and most likely the machine control board will have to be replaced. Depending on when you purchased the machine, the board may be covered under extended component warranty.
I had the same F1 problem and they had to replace the control board and something relating to the balance. The tech told me this is a common problem.

Whirlpool did a recall on this problem here is there number try this first. Whirlpool 1-800-253-1301
On a number of ranges this can mean a number of things, the most common being a failed ERC(EOC, Clock assembly)or a faulty touchpad. Firstly if you are using a recent Maytag range it may pay to test the oven sensor as described above as this may cause an F1 error if faulty (may apply to some other ranges as well) this is not a common cause but is worth discounting. To check the ERC and touchpad
  1. Disconnect the power
  2. Gain access to the back of the ERC
  3. Disconnect the ribbon cable that connects the ERC to the touchpad
  4. Check nothing will short when power is reconnected
  5. reconnect the power and switch on
  6. Watch for F1 and listen for the beep
  7. If you get the F1 and the beep this means the fault is with the ERC and it will need replacing
  8. If after 30 mins you do not see the F1 error and hear the beep, replace the touchpad
