When I turn my 46" DLP TV on I see "weak or no signal"

My Samsung 46" DLP TV when turned on gives a "weak or no signal" message on the screen. I get no picture and no sound, just a blue screen. But when I press "PIP" (picture in picture), I can see picture from a cable channel. The TV is very bright when turned on, so I don't think it's a lamp issue, but don't know for sure. I wonder if anyone out there knows if this is a lamp or a video signal issue?

SOURCE: 46" Samsung DLP Lines & Freeze up

This is a possible fault in the power supply, and can be a problem with some decoupler caps on some of the boards. The vertical bars and unstability are usually attributed to having high frequency noise and or clocking pulses crosstalking on to the power distribution lines that run through the boards. This can be switching power supply noise, or cross-talk from clocking pulses.

Another thing that can cause your described fault is unstable clocking between the devices that are reading and writing to the data busses. There are a number of data busses running through the set for the boards to be able to communicate with each other.

The tech will use the process of board swapping to service the set, and then do the adjustments as necessary to make sure the new boards match up.

Yes... DLP sets are fairly expensive to service!

This is my personal opinion. If the set is out of warranty, I would change for a Plasma or LCD set. If you compare the performance of these to ther DLP, the difference is very big. From what I am seeing from a service point of view, the DLP's are lower in reliability.

SOURCE: Samsung DLP HLM-617W/XAA

with lamp out (door closed) the ballast should "strike" or give an arc sound, trying to fire the lamp. If it does not do that maybe the color wheel is not spinning up - has to do that first.........then the set will try to fire the lamp

SOURCE: No Signal

I connected the cable to Ant-A, then connected a short cable from the out loop to Ant-B. Works fine. Didn't have a manual, had no idea.

Thunderstorm will damaged the semiconductor such as signal diode, transistor, and IC. Check any shorted component in power supply section. You need Multimeter and basic component testing procedure.

Weak or no signal message

  1. Since my problem (Samsung/Comcast) began with a channel selection button pushed on the TV remote when it should have been pushed on the cable remote, I figured the problem lay with the TV.  Although I was getting the "weak or no signal" msg., the actual signal strength bar graphic showed it to be strong. Disconnecting did no good. I surmised that the TV was simply not recognizing the box.
  2. I looked at the manual for my Samsung 750 model.
  3. Page 20 discussed "Selecting the source". I accessed the TV menu and selected "Input", then chose the "HD..." item from the highlighted list. Voila! My tv works again.
