I am trying to use the graph on my TI-84 Silver and when I input Y= and then equation and then hit Graph, it will graph the line but will not show the grid. How do I get the graph to show up along with the line?

You're probably trying to graph a function that does not involve stat plot features. You can correct this by turning off the stat plot features. Press "2ND" "STAT PLOT" and then select 4:PlotsOff.
1. To graph a function, Press [Y=] to enter the function editor. 2. Type in a legitimate function. 3. Press ENTER to validate the function. 4. Press the GRAPH key to draw the graph. 5. Play with the window dimensions or use the ZOOM feature to see more of the graph (or less).
Try your settings by drawing the function y= x If you have problem with Invalid Dimension or other errors, turn the Statistical Plots OFF. To do so, press [SHIFT] [Y=] to open the Stat Plots. Type in the number to the left of the Option PlotsOff. Then press ENTER.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to graph something like
5x+3=9
If this is correct, graph 5x+3 in the y1 line and 9 in the y2 line. To find the solution, you will press 2nd, then trace the intersection and hit enter 3 times. This will get the solution you need for the equation.
If this is not what you are wanting to do, you need to be try again and elaborate more.
You might not see the scatter plot when you go to the graph because the boundaries are not set correctly. With the scatter plot turned on, go to "zoom" and then scroll down to "zoomStat" and hit enter. Try going to the graph again and see if the the scatter plot shows up. As for the the equation being slightly different than the examples, this is probably just the calculator rounding up the answers it gets.
Good luck!

The calculator only displays from -10 to 10 on the x and y axes, and both of your lines are outside of that range. However, it is easy to change that.
1. Hit the gray "WINDOW" button that is directly under the screen 2. Change "Xmax" to 150 3. Change "Ymax" to 200
Remember to change both of those values back to 10 when you are done with this problem!
Here's how to graph it: 1. Hit the "Y=" button 2. Enter your first equation after Y1, and your second equation after Y2 3. Look over both the equations to make sure you typed them correctly 4. Hit the "GRAPH" button 5. If you don't see the intersection you will need to adjust Xmax and Ymax again 6. Hit Hit "2ND" and the "TRACE" to bring up the "CALC" menu 7. Scroll down to "intersect" and hit enter 8. Hit enter 3 times (You use the first and second curve options when you have more than 2 lines) 9. It should display the coordinates at the bottom 10. I got (76, 142.1) for the intersection
Thanks for asking this question! I used to do this a much harder way, but while I was calculating the answer to your question I hit a wrong button and accidentally found this method!
ok well go to the 'y=' button
type in the equation and make sure that the equals sign after y has like a black box around it, making the actual = white. so make sure both of those = signs of the 2 equations that you want to graph are like that, and thats about it.
go to apps menu, go to transform app. click uninstall and go to y= screnn and should be a slash on the left and you should be able to graph more than one equation.
