A steamer can be used with delicate and fragile or very structured garments to gently remove creases and wrinkles. Many retail outlets will have a steamer that they'll use with new stock coming into the store that's been packed. A steamer doesn't apply pressure so where there is lots of pleats or tucks in say a georgette or crepe de chine garment, a steamer will remove the creases without impacting the delicate design and nature of the garment.

Why are there hard deposits in the boiler of my eurosteam iron?

Tap water contains minerals/chemicals, whether it's from a well, or from a city source. When water is heated to steaming, these minerals, precipitate out of the water and form deposits. Use some vinegar. The mild acid will help loosen the deposits... and from now on use distilled water.

Seems silly... but is it plugged in to a live outlet? Does it have water?

I " inherited" this iron without a manual. How do I retract the cord on my cordless iron? It refers to a button but I can't locate it.

I never saw an iron with a retractable cord . The cover would have to be large enough to accomodate the cord and the heat from the iron could melt the cord. Are you sure it supposed to work like that?
