Bernina 1230 Is there a way to adjust the pressure on the presser foot?

I am having trouble trying to sew two layers of polar fleece together. They keep pulling out from under the foot instead of feeding evenly. I thought that a lighter pressure on the foot might help, but can't find a way to adjust the amount of pressure. I'm sure there must be a way to lighten the pressure, but I can't find anything in the manual.

My 930 has an adjustment although I'm not familiar with the 1230. To adjust the 930, I have to open the top and use a screwdriver to turn the silver screw at the top left above the presser foot bar. Although, a Bernina users group indicates there is no adjustment on the 1230. You might check this out:

However, I think your issue is a result of the unique texture of the fleece fabric. Apparently, minky fabric presents a sewing challenge as well. Perhaps a roller, teflon, or walking foot would work better.

Just checked on U-Tube there are several video's there for problems, otherwise there is a spring at the top of the needle shaft that can be loosened. Good Luck!

SOURCE: Bernina Virtuosa 150 and uneven layers or bulk.

Hi I have a 15 year old Frister Rossmann serger which I got second hand 10 years ago. It has had one break down which was my fault for not getting it serviced for 8 years. Not sure where in world you are. They sell as Frister Rossmann in UK and Europe and Kenmore in the US. I've used it mainly for dressmaking and soft furnishing projects. One more thought on the Bernina have you tried leaving a query / searching on the US Bernina website www.berninausa.com I use them alot. Try and stick with getting the Bernina sorted, I love mine! SOURCE: how do you lessen the pressure on the presser foot

On some machines there is a knob on the left the top or a recessed screw that is used for adjusting the pressure.

You may find you will get better results if you use a walking foot when sewing fleece or any other type of fabric where the layers tend to shift during the sewing process.

SOURCE: How to adjust the tension

You are not actually able to adjust the presser foot. For quilting you should pick up a "free motion" foot pedal made specifically for that. They run on e-bay for roughly $10-$20. Make sure you get one that fits your type of machine.

Can you see the feed dogs moving?

un thread, raise the pressure foot then manually turn the flywheel towards you and watch the feed dogs (the teeth that move under the needle plate). If they are not moving around and coming up above the needle plate then one of two things:
either you've accidentially disengaged the feed dogs, check the manual for instructions to reengage, sometimes a knob, button or slide, often on the front base or around the back of the free arm.

If they are engaged but not moving up at all, then something has gone in the drive to them, usually a gear in the free arm area. In which case, take to the shop for repair.

How do you adjust the pressure on the foot on a Singer 7033 Signature Machine

You can't adjust the presser foot force on the 7033. The loose loops indicate the top thread tension is too low. Try re-doing the top thread with the needle and presser foot fully up. Next make sure that the area under the bobbin case is clean. If you are still having an issue, consider a walking foot to keep the fabric layers together. Make sure to get one for a slant shank sewing machine.

I hope this helps.

Industrial sewing machine jumps a stitch passing from thich to thin layers (from a double layer to a single) any help?

When sewing from thick to thin layers, it is common for industrial sewing machines to skip stitches or produce uneven stitches. Here are some things you can try to prevent this issue:
  1. Use the right needle: A needle that is too small or too large for the fabric can cause skipped stitches. Make sure you are using the correct needle size and type for the fabric you are working with.
  2. Adjust the presser foot pressure: The pressure of the presser foot can be adjusted on most industrial sewing machines. Decrease the pressure of the presser foot when sewing over thinner layers to help prevent skipped stitches.
  3. Use a walking foot: A walking foot can help prevent skipped stitches when sewing over multiple layers of fabric. The walking foot will help feed the fabric through the machine evenly, preventing skipped stitches.
  4. Adjust the tension: If the tension is too loose or too tight, it can cause skipped stitches. Adjust the tension according to the fabric you are working with.
  5. Use a stabilizer: When sewing over thin fabrics, use a stabilizer to prevent the fabric from puckering and causing skipped stitches.
If none of these solutions work, you may need to take the machine to a professional for further inspection and adjustment.

I have a Bernina 1300MDC and I'm trying to sew viscose lycra. The material struggles to feed correctly. the top layer makes pleats. I did change the differential feed and the pressure foot.

You might check out the presser foot pressure setting on your machine. If it is set too heavy, it will prevent thick fabric from feeding through easily but instead will push the fabric in front of the foot. It could also be that the fabric you are sewing is slightly sticky, so it is sticking to the presser foot. You can try laying a piece of tissue paper over the top of the fabric as you stitch so the fabric will not stick.

How do you thread the bernina 1230

You can probably use the manual for the 1260. Sewing machines basically thread alike from one model to the next.

One thing to remember: ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread! This will help prevent those dreaded thread nests under the fabric.

How do you adjust pressure foot on the 134d. not in the manual

You can try using a roller foot or teflon foot that will glide over the fleece better. However, you may not have these options available for this machine.

Check out page 31 of the manual for a guide on fabric weights.

When I'm sewing fleece material the material wants to bunch up, how do I stop this?

Does this machine have adjustable pressure settings for the presser foot ? If it does, reduce the pressure. The softness and bulk of fleece makes it tend to bunch, so less pressure is very helpful. A wide presser foot with a very flat bottom may also help.

Reduced presser foot pressure is helpful for most knits, very much so for stretchy fabrics. Fleeces are usually knits.

Using a stretch stitch also helps. If you don't have a stretch stitch, a very small zig zag is helpful to provide some give to the seam.

I am making a fleece jacket lined with fleece. It is very difficult to get both layers under the pressure foot Is there any way for me to raise the foot ? I would like to top stitch in order to finish...

Are you pulling the presser foot all the way up. Most machines, stop when you raise the foot, but then you can raise it higher but putting more upward pressure on the foot raise lever, the foot will go higher. Give this a try. Thanks for using Fixya!
