I would like to deactivate the mousepad in DELl inspirion 6400 but so far I am not able to find anywhere where this is possible.
I would apprecaite you support.
I am assuming you are referring to the Touchpad.
I'm not sure why, but here goes.
Go to START -- Control panel -- Add Remove Programs --
Locate the Synaptics Touchpad Driver
Select Remove
When you restart your computer it will try to automatically reinstall these drivers in order to prevent this you will have to cancel ALL attempts by windows to reinstall.
As this is an integrated device you Cannot completely remove it from the system and will have to repeat this procedure each time you start your machine if you don't want the Touchpad active.
BTW why do you want to deactivate your touchpad ?
It sounds like you're using a mouse not a touch pad.
There is a way to decrease the sensitivity of the mouse maybe this will help.
Click--START--Control Panel--Mouse
Under Mouse properties select the Pointer Options tab
Slide the Motion control to the left (Slower)
This will decrease the mouse pointer speed.
If this doesn't help please re post and we'll work some more.

Look at the icons in the lower right-hand corner of your desktop. There will be icon for the touchpad.
If youre not sure which one it is just hover your mouse over the icons. It looks like a rectangle with two dots underneath.Right-click on the icon and click on "pointing device properties" . A control panel will appear. Under the "devices " tab, the last option is "disable touchpad/stick when a USB pointing device is present" . Tick the box.Touchpad is now disabled.
