We have found that our clothes have a musty smell if left in the washing machine for approximately 45 minutes. Heavier clothes, e.g. towels, can begin to smell musty within 30 minutes.
Make shure to do a cleaning cycle. As well, wipe out the inside, the rubber gasket and the door when done washing for the day. We also have found that
leaving the door "Open" for several hours, when finnished, eliminates any future
smells.
Is your washing machine front-loading? That odour comes from mould growing inside your appliance.
If your clothes smell musty, chances are they are infested with spores of a mould. The bad smell occurs because of a fungus called mildew which grows on the fibres.
The easiest way to clean a smelly washer is to do the maintenance wash - this is an empty wash on the hottest setting. Add two cups of white vinegar to the drum - the vinegar will help to sanitise your machine.
