I left my Camera unused for more han one year and lef the batteries installed. There was a little corrosion on the Battery compartment that I have cleaned, but even though I have new batteries installed the camera will not turn ON. Any clue ???
There are two slightly springy metal contacts underneath one end of the tray that holds the battery carrier. The tray covers the bottom of the camera and is attached with 5 little cross point screws. Remove the screws and lift out the tray. You will probably find that the negative corntact has corroded away and the power circuit is open. You will either have to salvage a good tray with clean contacts from another "parts" camera, or reconstruct the corroded contact with some light gauge stranded wire soldered to the battery tray and also soldered to the circuit board inside the end of the camera. Getting a replacement tray is easier and risk free. On the other hand the soldering job is finicky, with the risk of damaging the circuit board if you are not a brain surgeon or an endodontist. The camera is totally "dead" without doing one of these interventions. Take your pick.
Hi Oskarr900, The corrosion may have eaten away at small wires that are on the springs that hold the battery holder in the camera. Notice those wires go into the plastic camera body. If that has happened the camera will need to go in to Nikon. These cameras are only worth $90 or less so you may want to look into purchasing a used N2000.
